i bought a banksy 'have a nice day' print in 2003, from a reputable dealer in London (Magma in Clerkenwell Rd) and is definately genuine. The print is unsigned but numbered 55/500.
it is not embossed by POW as i believe it was before they existed?
anyone have any ideas how much i need to be insuring this for?
thanks

Insurance is the cost to replace it, so insure for the highest amount you can find in the most expensive gallery plus a % for any increase. Probably minimum 4k these days. This is not what you could sell it for of course, probably 2k at best.

that would be pounds... both at the high end of the scale.. last one sold for ca 1500 sterling

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by tadghostal on Feb 28, 2007 4:11:35 GMT 1, 280088026095
Nothing but cheap books sold recently. Now all of a sudden he's got three Banksys (other listings discussed in appropriate threads), none of which have a POW stamp or pictures showing the print number clearly. In fact, they've all conveniently got the numbers completely cut out of the pics.
Apparently Banksy used a different font on the typeset for this print. Strange, because I was always under the impression that he used screens--meaning, unless he made a new screen or went to a lot of trouble during printing, the font would never change.
Alex is one lucky guy. He sure has a lot of very peculiar and rare "Banksys."

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by tadghostal on Feb 28, 2007 9:06:09 GMT 1, Right on, so maybe the font isn't a big deal at all. In fact, it seems as though the pictures shown are of what is likely the *legitimate* font. By no means was I saying this is a fake, just saying that there was enough strangeness about the listing that it made me suspicious.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by foundation on Oct 2, 2006 21:31:27 GMT 1, Odd writing and no picture of the full print, just screen shots from different places, looks like they are trying to sell the one from banksy .com,hmmmm As far as i knew the 31a/ps were all very similar to the general release.

Signature looks good to me , but why photograph the signature then use a stock photo for the print?

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by jchapman on Oct 3, 2006 3:32:53 GMT 1, Actually folks it is my print. I have updated all the info with actual pictures, copy of invoice from LAZ and Stephanne as well as the tube etc. As much as some of you think you are "authorities" on what are fakes and what are not, you aren't. - Hmmm.. "we have it on good authority that it is a poster." You obviously didn't check with LAZ did you. Sorry for my tone but some of you are just a little paranoid. Ask Stepanne at LAZwho the print is registered with and she'll tell you Jack Chapman.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by foundation on Oct 3, 2006 8:02:15 GMT 1, Jack, why so defensive, it was you who was too lazy to take a photo of your own high priced print, anyone presented with the mishmash of stock photos you had up would have come to the same conclusion after some homework, as the font you were showing was never released on a print ( only shown on banksy.com). You mentioned nothing about provenance that couldn't be falsified. Your new description is much better, why not take your time when expecting to get $5000+ for a print and dont give inquisitive interested parties such as ourselves any excuse to doubt you.

Human nature. Having been on e-bay for 8 years and maintained a 100% feedback score it was a knee jerk reply. Thanks for bringing the problems to light. I would hope now that the info has been updated the conclusion is that the print is real and my good name has been cleared.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by monochrome on Oct 3, 2006 14:06:16 GMT 1, foundation - i have to say i've become tired of being asked 'do you have photos of the numbering?' - no fucker believes you when you say it's xxx/600 and offer a full moneyt back offer - and that's with 100% feedback.
am sad to say, most of the time the people asking these questions aren't even bidders, they are just people off here and ebay trying to prove a point to fellow board members about the validity of an auction. we're not the police after all... thank god.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by foundation on Oct 3, 2006 14:18:23 GMT 1, Mono, not sure why the number issue was pointed at me, as I havnt mentioned numbers or pictures through anything related to this discussion. If you are getting tired of being asked do you have a photo of numbering then it may be a good hint to START PUTTING PHOTOS OF THE NUMBER ON YOUR DESCRIPTION! Not so much trying to prove a point ( though I dare say some do), my main problem with people selling knockoff prints to people who dont know any better, scalping fans new to Banksy, and scalpers perpetuating their own income in dodgy rubbish. The original description of the HAND was rubbish and looked dodgier than most, Jack has sorted it into a good description that sells the print. I got seriously ripped off when I started collecting and try to stop it happening to others.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by monochrome on Oct 3, 2006 15:37:29 GMT 1, hey - not having a go. just airing my views. i am aware of the desire not to be ripped off, and will help others not getting ripped off too. but as with most postings on here, and the ebay forum they tend to lean towards the 'guilty, now go prove you're not' which isn't nice.
whilst some people will head blindly onto ebay and buy anything, others wil be cautious and learn. but there are folk around on these two forums that need restraining orders in my opinion. i recall a piece i auctioned about 3 months ago and got 5, maybe 6 forum members asking to provide receipts, let alone photographs. and guess what, not a single one of the bid for the items - they just seemed to 'police' bids and cast suspicion.
i think jack's item was badly put together, but the amount of threads on here and ebay accusing before asking is wrong. daily a new post appears with the heading '6563826490 - fake?' and not one person has bothered to ask!!!
it's oneupmanship in my eyes. and wrong.

Completely agree! I have also wondered if some people do this to try and stop others from bidding so they can then bid at the last minute and pick up a bargain

To a certain extent I agree, I did it with the recent HAND to prove a point. a) That those that police the boards are not always right to storm in a shout DINK !!! when a simple question and some advise to the seller can often get you the info required and save them a lot of hassle. On the other hand, if these questions don't get asked and debated, then someones likely to get scammed. It does generate info for those that simply read the boards but don't necessarily participate. 700 members or so, some of whom may or may not bid based on the info and arguments that they read on the threads. A lot of the time it seems that members who a) already have the item or b) can't afford it, like to cast doubt to satisfy their own needs and not those of newcomers hoping to buy or get the info needed to make a safe purchase. But all in all I think the groups function really well and rarely make obvious mistakes.

Ha ha, brings back fond memories of getting my Barcode with the dodgy sig on the reverse, everyone was screaming, "it's a fake sig, it's a fake sig', of course it was, but a) it was on the reverse and b) it was in pencil ;D got it real cheap, now where's that eraser ;D

a kind word, is a lot more productive that shouting the odds on the forums in question - or is to show that you are a 'real' banksy fan by knowing about the pre POW tag stamp cock shit wank etc....

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by mido on Oct 4, 2006 0:12:53 GMT 1, it costs 12p to put an extra photo up on an ebay listing (the first one is free, yes FREE)
I'd say that is the best 12p a seller will ever spend. it's shows that are interested, and alert. Stops email asking for extra photos of numbering etc.
I am always amazed at how shoddy some sellers will treat a listing for a £500+ print
foundation - i have to say i've become tired of being asked 'do you have photos of the numbering?' - no f**ker believes you when you say it's xxx/600 and offer a full moneyt back offer - and that's with 100% feedback. am sad to say, most of the time the people asking these questions aren't even bidders, they are just people off here and ebay trying to prove a point to fellow board members about the validity of an auction. we're not the police after all... thank god.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by Tyler Durden on May 24, 2007 14:27:53 GMT 1, Hey,
A friend of mine is after an unsigned 'Have A Nice Day' print, with provenance.
He's happy to pay cash, or for swaps has some choice pieces (only for this piece):
Gangsta Rat; Napalm; I fought the Law
Please PM me if you're interested.
Thanks!
