Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by bollockchops on Jun 24, 2007 9:50:33 GMT 1, anyone know how expensive prints can get? ie. from other artists? what's the dearest Warhol print for example? or Hirst?
A Warhol screenprint of Maryilyn went for £14.1million earlier this year.
It cost $300 (about £150) at one of Warhol's solo shows and was auctioned by the person who originally bought it.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by jam on Jun 24, 2007 10:11:12 GMT 1, I friend of mine owns an art gallery in NY. She has been collecting art for years, since the late 60s. She told me about some of the original Warhols they owned/own and what they paid for them. Its mad! She has an original Mao silkscreen thats large, it was only 5k in 1974... an original suite of 10 prints from the Marilyns all signed and numbered were $500 each... and many other similar memories of prices paid. She jokes about how she though it was crazy to pay that much back then and that she thought she would never break even if she needed to sell anything, but his prices kept going up and up as more people learned about him. Of course, there is also a number of artists that didn't last that she has sunk thousands in... you just never know.
Her key to collecting just as many people on here say, is to buy what you love at a price you can live with, then you can't go wrong!

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by stickitup on Jun 25, 2007 15:11:25 GMT 1, yes but the whole thing about warhols was that he wanted to produce art off a production line - hence his work studio being called the factory. most of the signatures were not done by warhol himself and many were stamped onto the work. jeffrey archer commisioned a load and then threw them away, theres a gallery which sells those ones at brandler gallery (think that was where it was) ask the guy there about it and he will tell you the story. signed warhols are in fact worth little more than an unsigned as it is very difficult to prove it was signed by the artist himself

thats not quite true, you can take warhols to people who look after his estate and if there not considerd to be signed by him the stamp strait through the middle, like the cauty rejects

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by Pattycakes on Jun 25, 2007 16:05:39 GMT 1, Actually the unsigned Sunday B Morning ones are fake, they come from completely different screens to the original edition, and are still being printed today. They are utterly crap when you compaire them to the originals.

Expect Ebay price to be nearer £10k! (But with 2 listed this might lower it a bit)
My money says they will go for £9k Glad I bought mine 2 months ago!!!

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by adrscib on Jul 9, 2007 17:58:52 GMT 1, the gallery prices and increases are mostly hyped up... e.g. oldchurchgalleries show banksies at overinflated prices... no wonder that they dont sell them (they sit there unsold for 3 months now!) ... other galleries do the trick that they raise the prices of signed to a very high level so that ppl gasp and dont ask for it... (then when you enquire they are out of stock), then they keep the prices of unsigned at reasonable levels just to make the unsigned look more attractive.... its marketing... the site i remeber is union gallery work this way but forgot the web address.

Congrats Dave, guess you need any type of good fortune after a life in WSM, I hope you have a happy life together and it brings back good memories ( such as the day old Eric got rip-sawed whilst sitting on a bench on the promenade, ahh halcyon days indeed)

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by tomhills1 on Feb 8, 2007 20:50:40 GMT 1, for weston-super-mare read; margate, blackpool, skegness, eastbourne etc. the seaside resorts of england are without exception the most mundane, soul destroying, lifeless places on earth. there is something quite eery about them, like they've been forgotten by time to grow old and frail like those who reside there. just the concept of an "amusement" arcade sends a shiver down my spine.

I must say though not every English seaside resort is like that, Newquay although not my cup of tea is a lot more lively, and you wouldn't include Brighton either.
