Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by tomhills1 on Feb 8, 2007 21:45:15 GMT 1, to add, banksy must have chosen WSM because it's the nearest resort to bristol and i guess he was taken there as a kid. also, back in the day, the measure of any resort was it's pier. my local, herne bay, used to boast one a mile long! beat that southend.

Southend is the longest damn pier in the whole wide world don't you know! 1.34 miles long. So there. Complete shite though.

I used to live near Swindon as a child and I can vouch from experience that the only reason you'd go to MSM is because your parents didn't want to drive any farther.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by mido on Feb 9, 2007 1:35:46 GMT 1, I don't think it does. That is not the WSM I know. It's just a lazy and negative stereo type that will titilate the reactionaries.
I really Like WSM. it's a good down to earth place. no frills. no airs and graces. NORMAL people go there..... yes, including people who cannot afford a foreign holiday or can travel far. Loads of Asian families come down from Birmingham area as it's one of their closest chances to see the sea. It's chilled, relaxed. simple.
beach, mud, pier, chips, donkeys. It's got it all.
and brean is close as are the woods and little bays to the north.
As someone who didn't grow-up on that side of the pond, why do you think Weston Super Mare does a good job capturing the area?

"beach, mud, pier, chips, donkeys."
if that's what floats your boat, then it's a great place.
You forgot to mention all the old people.

You're in the right area to start pimping, don't be sorry, and at least it gets us away from English seaside resort talk. It'll be too pricey for me though I'm afraid.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by theministerofsound on Feb 10, 2007 0:16:12 GMT 1, Minister of sound - best comparison would be somewhere like Old Orchard Beach in Maine or one of the many other older small coastal resorts in New England.
Old Orchard Beach really hit home as my family used to have a house on Long Sands in York.
Thanks everyone for the insight. I really appreciate it. I've been to London many times and traveled around the countryside a bit but never been to Weston-Super-Mare.
Thanks again.

Looks like someone's going to get a bargain, unless there's a last minute frenzy.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by foundation on Oct 9, 2006 10:23:57 GMT 1, It has been discussed before, and was pulled before the end of sale, the year is when it was signed, not printed ( there are J&Js with 05 and 06 sigs). I hadnt seen a stamped one before, which caught my attention, quite a few seen with pen sig, unusual but not impossible. Sold now anyway so why bother ( unless you bought it! )

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by ratpack on Oct 9, 2006 10:31:23 GMT 1, I didn't buy it!
I was comparing it to mine which is a higher number but it was signed a year earlier in pen.
Just thought I would raise it in case it's something to be cautious of in the future.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by foundation on Oct 9, 2006 10:42:59 GMT 1, Good spotting though, it had been discussed on the otherside, it did raise a few eyebrows, nothing definite had been put forward, but why go to the trouble of faking up and stamping a print, the inconguities actually argue for it rather than against it. An odd print but nothing ovbiously wrong with it.

Legit? I like the colors better than most WSM's that I see.
BTW, what is the point of this print? I'm not sure if its a cultural disconnect--an inside joke for Brits--or if its just me who doesn't get it.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by hungrig on Mar 21, 2007 2:02:33 GMT 1, This is a 'back door' print from POW's original printers in Birmingham, prior to Ben doing POW's printing in-house. It is unauthorised and not legitimate. One sees these on eBay every now and then. Not worth the trouble.
POW's description of 'Weston-Super-Mare' was as follows:
'A cheerful tribute to the great British seaside towns. Ideal for anyone who has ever walked the streets screaming "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE", at groups of pensioners.'

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by mickg on Jun 9, 2007 14:56:33 GMT 1, Interesting point that. None of the other recent ebay WSMs have had a stamp and they have all been signed in black, but another difference is the others are all numbered out of 750, not 150.
These are the numbers: 260115473199 140112265559 110110107349 280104164921
