Completely unrelated to art -

but I spent some time last Christmas in Berlin - loved it - loved Christmas Markets - the Germans really go for that traditional Christmas massively, gingerbread, gluhe wine, sweets etc etc nothing like here - came back and I was practically wearing a red and white suit and packing a bulging sack (Whats new on that front, I hear you ask?)

Anyway - I loved Germany at Xmas so much - I want to go again this year and Christmasize myself up......so - forum members of the world - hit me with your German Christmas tips - Was thinking of heading to Munich this time.

I can highly recommend Berlin at Christmas..loads of Christmas markets..and I saw a few Banksy street pieces whilst I was there too in Mitt - But I want the full Christmas experience this year, Half timbered houses, Lederhosen, Alpine Yodelling Yodeleh hay Hoooooooo, massive candy canes as big as your own head.....

Christmas in Germany rocks.
The whole traditional Christmas thing, they love it - Mulled wine, Gingerbread, stollen etc etc - If you don't come back from there living and breathing the Christmas spirit - your dead inside.

Here, apart from a few notable exceptions (Ice skating at Somerset House etc) it's way too commercial and all the tradition seems to have fallen by the wayside.

I'll be there for a couple of days in Dec (not sure of dates yet)
What should I aim to see apart from the Christmas market?
What should I eat and where? good restaurants -
Where should I drink? cool bars etc.

if you want traditional xmas, with classic xmas card weather I'd check Stockholm absolutely beautiful around christmas and the birds aren't bad either....added bonus everyone speaks english!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is the Germans who invented the "traditional" Christmas i.e. presents, trees, gluttony, etc...danke! Sounds like a great way to spend the holiday...

I just got back fom Cologne which is Great city. I could have thrown a stone from my balcony at the Cathedral, Awsome building. Lots of graffiti everywhere too, Saw some blu and London Police in a shop called 'vibe'. They had a space Invader show in one of the galleries a couple of months back also which I went too. Also met the pretty one from Herakut. She's German of course and they are both coming to london for xmas. Cologne also seems so safe and everything works too! I love london but it really can be a nightmare, took me longer to get from waterloo to N London than it did to fly from stanstead to Cologne!

Hey! im off to Berlin in Dec too! especially for the xmas markets.... coming from the east, ive only ever seen them in the movies and i hope it'll be as good as you guys say it is..!

im off to Dresden as well... so if anyone has any pointers on where to stay or what to do or where to go in both those placews.. it'll be greatly appreciateed! it'll be a whirlwind trip... one night in each place...!
