New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by FЯ on Jun 3, 2017 22:35:22 GMT 1, Do you think this will still be up on Banksy's site tomorrow? Probably better worded, but yes. He would look silly to not do it now.
it could be just a clever play on words though as archival paper could just be your printer at home. If it turns out to be a download, he will look even more of a plonker.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by jp on Jun 3, 2017 22:37:49 GMT 1, It seems to me, having just read through seven pages if this thread, that Banksy's politics have remained the same over the years, but the political persuasion of many of his fans (now probably better called collectors) has changed. And of course that was inevitable as the value of his work started to rise. I can't see why any right wing voter would like Banksy's work (much of which illustrates left wing issues), but for the potential to gain financially. That must be a real quandary for Banksy. Nailed it. Imagine what this thread would have looked like back in 2005. It would be fascinating to compare the responses.
It makes me fear what the Banksy fans of 2027 will be like...

I mean if that's actually illegal, then asking people to do it would surely cause a few problems.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Daniel Silk on Jun 3, 2017 22:46:01 GMT 1, I think it's been mentioned already on this thread, about what if it was the other way around? If a business or individual was offering a gift or payment for those who don't vote Labour.
If this turns out to be totally legal and possible, imagine a big conservative backer offered a similar deal in the next few days for those not voting Labour, would that be seen as ok?

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Deleted on Jun 3, 2017 22:57:36 GMT 1, Looks like Thangam Debbonaire will get a lot of votes then.
www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/candidates-standing-2017-general-election-55140
Even if this print does have a value which market forces not Banksy will set. Some will see it as bribing for votes. At the same time the government has no problem allowing block and postal voting where community leaders go door to door telling people who to vote for.
The government also has no problem allowing MP's to vote whichever way they are bribed to vote by lobbyists and by big companies etc and vested interests etc.
I can see how political parties can give away posters and such stuff to voters but as far as I know the voters don't have to prove or show who they did or did not vote for to get one. Apart from in Ghana where voters who voted a particular way got a free sewing machine.
Banksy says the print has no monetary value yet at the same time says it is a limited edition print and to get one, one has to prove they voted but did not vote Tory. Wonder why he did not decide to make it unlimited instead?
It's a tricky one for sure. Banksy is giving the print away for free to voters who did not vote Tory. I guess what one does with the print afterwards is nothing to do with Banksy.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by rockbeer on Jun 3, 2017 22:58:15 GMT 1, If it's illegal to offer any kind of inducement or bribe to people to persuade them to vote in a particular way then that presumably makes every politician who ever offered a tax cut or benefit increase or childcare subsidy equally guilty. Elections are routinely fought on the basis of bribes (albeit usually alongside threats).
I honestly don't think there's much to this story - certainly not enough to justify the outpourings of outrage. The prints will no doubt be nice to own, for those lucky enough to get one without getting themselves arrested, but as far as value goes they'll be on a par with stickers, maybe Di Tenners. There will be uncountable thousands floating around, impossible to authenticate - a few sleazy types will probably do well enough flogging 'genuine' reproductions on the bay, but they'll never be worth serious money. Techincally it's a breach of the law, I guess, but you'd have to be either a fool or irredeemably corruptible to switch your vote just to get hold of one, especially if you imagine it's gong to make you rich.
Then again, the B market is so insane that I'll probably be shaking my head in shame and disbelief in a couple of weeks time when they're changing hands for grands.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Deleted on Jun 3, 2017 23:01:28 GMT 1, If one of the Tories' wealthy backers offered voters a 'gift' of potentially significant value in return for them voting Conservative in key marginal constituencies, I would be beyond furious. It is a corruption of democracy, an offence against decency. I'd also say that promising an extra £350m a week to the NHS last year was a corruption of democracy, or promising not to raise VAT in 2010 before doing so a fortnight later, or the influence that shadowy US-based billionaire Robert Mercer enjoyed in the Brexit vote (and again this year), or the disregard paid by Tories to election financing rules and their contempt for subsequent attempts to protect them, etc and so forth. These are all extremely troubling, and Banksy has put himself in very bad company. However, at least he's perverting democracy for the right side. So, in short, I'm all for it. I would go as far as saying the Brexit campaign and promising £350 m a week to the NHS swayed voters and was election fraud. Johnson etc should be investigated for election fraud and considering we have not yet left the EU. I am surprised that the government and leave campaign which was Tory? has not been taken to the ECHR by Europeans living in the UK and Brits living in Europe.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by iamzero on Jun 3, 2017 23:08:14 GMT 1, It seems to me, having just read through seven pages if this thread, that Banksy's politics have remained the same over the years, but the political persuasion of many of his fans (now probably better called collectors) has changed. And of course that was inevitable as the value of his work started to rise. I can't see why any right wing voter would like Banksy's work (much of which illustrates left wing issues), but for the potential to gain financially. That must be a real quandary for Banksy.
Why wouldn't a so called right wing voter like Banksys work? I like Billy Bragg, doesn't make me a socialist. I like some skin head punk music, doesn't make me a member of the NF. To suggest that everyone with the money to now collect Banksy's work is a card carrying Tory capitalist is absurd. There are many hypocritical members on here with left wing socialist views that have benefited from flipping artwork by Banksy. Capitalism at its finest. I'd like to think we can all be grown up enough to still discuss our views and not be condemned by them.
