New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Coach on Jun 3, 2017 23:39:03 GMT 1, But are not the majority of Banksy's artworks political? I could not hang any art which represented a political point of view that I didn't agree with. is They might be but I think you're reading far to much into his work. I like his work but me and I am sure many others don't see him as a political artist
Surely anyone collecting this type of art realises that Banksy prints are almost all political?

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Daniel Silk on Jun 3, 2017 23:39:05 GMT 1, I'm not left, right or whatever other box you might like to put me in, and I think many people feel the same. Whatever "agenda" Banksy has with his art doesn't necessarily mean anything to the people who buy his art and purely enjoy it as a piece of art rather than a political or social statement. But are not the majority of Banksy's artworks political? I could not hang any art which represented a political point of view that I didn't agree with. I understand why you might think that, but not everyone see's the political messages in the art in the same way you might, and they might even not see the art as political at all.

No sorry. I see the irony behind them but don't read the politics. Can you enlighten me and explain some examples?

Not at all. I see irony of everyday life not ruined by politics. You explain to me the politics then?

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Daniel Silk on Jun 3, 2017 23:48:31 GMT 1, Sadly so many people like dividing society by their political and religious beliefs, their race and gender. I would have hoped Banksy was all about equality? Totally 100% agree and I think Banksy would as well So can't it be seen that he is trying to divide people politically in Bristol?

I like his work but me and I am sure many others don't see him as a political artist Surely anyone collecting this type of art realises that Banksy prints are almost all political? People might understand that Banksy is politically motivated and the art has political messages, but it doesn't mean all the people buying them agree with those messages, as they might just enjoy it simply as Art. its clear on this forum, to some people the political side of the art is very important, but not everyone thinks like that Nobody is wrong! It's just we all think differently and have different likes and beliefs.

You explain to me the politics then? "everyday life" implies society and, consequently, social politics. The freedom (and equally the prohibition) of individuals to express themselves through any means by which influence is cast into the societal cauldron must, then, be political. One of the very many examples would be his Guantanamo Bay prisoner placement inside Disney Land. Or how about Slave Labor? Social? Political? Often one in the same.

You can see whatever you like in them, however, categorically his work is hugely political

As Daniel said we don't have to all be politically motivated to appreciate it, we love it for the art itself an what it personally means to each of us and not one should think is prescribed. Peace!

I can't imagine Tory voters would change their vote for a print, but that would be fairly ironic!

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by Deleted on Jun 4, 2017 0:35:06 GMT 1, There was an article a long time ago that Banksy married a Labour party lobbyist. How true it is is anyones guess even whether Banksy is one person or a business plan created by a group of investors many years ago.
The art does tend to support no borders and globalism, not s sure about the socialism aspect to Banksy's eye candy protest art tho.
