Ravi Zupa πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Gallery Show News, by Mr Murk on Jul 25, 2011 20:46:51 GMT 1, Opening reception August 5th @ 7pm β Open to the public Artist in attendance
Denver, CO (May 25, 2011) - Prominent Denver artist, Ravi Zupa will be showing at Black Book for the month of August. Zupaβs prolific work is a continual βpracticeβ and motivated largely by his commitment to spiritual matters, which would explain the constant evolution and growth demonstrated in his pieces, including spiritual references. His most recent work marks a new transformation as Zupa practices untangling his rigid hand (brought on by his training as a professional animator) and dipping into softer realms, highlighting a greater emotional presence in his new work. The name of the show, FEELINSUSPENDED marks the middle of a handful of significant pivot points in Zupaβs work and life, the artist says: βFeelings are more present and evident in this new work. Aside from being richer visually, there is also a bigger commitment to expressive techniques. Largely the result of my relationships with friends (particularly women) the new work is for me more emotional and makes the older work feel cold and diluted by intellect. A couple of the pieces are actually collaborations with a woman who brings out some of my most chaotic emotions. Suspended objects (marionette puppets) are a larger more integral part of this experience and provide an opportunity for me to integrate influences from all continents of the globe. Asia, Europe, Latin America and obviously North America have been present for a long time but because I do not borrow two-dimensional images from Africa, this most ancient influence appears in the three-dimensional objects. The tradition of crafting toys, religious objects, tools and art out of other every day objects has been mastered by craftsmen in countries all over Africa. Creative use of our waste has become the focus of my sculpture which leaves me feeling more holistic about my influences.
Feeling suspended in my career has left a very noticeable mark on my life, as I am moving further into larger arenas and have started to receive international attention and greater visibility. I am suspended however not in the sense that something is holding me back but more in suspense about how this next phase will unfold. In the meantime I am still in Denver enjoying my art and these shows as I always have. β First Friday and all month at Black Book Gallery will provide an excellent chance to meet the artist in person, witness the precursor of potential for greater international recognition.

Dropping tomorrow (Thursday 9th Feb) at The Outsiders online is 'Saint George' β a heroic etching by ascendant painter Ravi Zupa. Ravi Zupaβs exhibition βNothing Teaches Needsβ is on now at The Outsiders London gallery. Only five of the 30 original works of art on display remain unsold, and these will also be available online from tomorrow.
Visitors have been blown away by Raviβs colourful and intricate hand-painted collages featuring honourable warriors, fearful goddesses, tearful lovers and profound rappers. To celebrate his victorious UK debut, Coloradoβs Ravi created 'Saint George', an original Gravure etching depicting legendary dragon hunter Saint George vanquishing his foe upon suburban wasteland. Ravi Zupa πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Gallery Show News, by Mr Murk on Oct 28, 2012 18:46:02 GMT 1, RAVI ZUPA "ONE MILLION THINGS"
Denver, CO (November 2nd, 2012) β As we head into the end of the year we are showcasing some of the best artistic talent Colorado has to offer. November marks the return of one of Denverβs finest: Ravi Zupa. With a newfound clarity and purpose Ravi is set to take his prolific and unique abilities to a new level.
βThis has been a frenetic, intense and satisfying year for me. I have had several successful shows including a nearly sold out show in London. My friend Sam found one of my paintings at Goodwill for $4.99 as well, imagine that. This show represents a full return to my life. I've had a rough few years of angry, messy, emotional entropy. Now I'm back to cleanness in my mind and it's a relief. Many of the images here are an exploration of that frantic resentful period. Others are about a hopefulness and clarity that I feel now. As always, the central intention of this show is one of bringing together. Combining images and ideas to create controlled experiments aimed at finding things universal. 15th century Dutch painting, Hindu and Buddhist iconography from the Himalayas, 19th Century Anatomical illustration, Japanese screen paintings and Hand painted barber signs are the predominant inspirations throughout the work. This show is an attempt to wrap my fingers around one million things and lay them out flat, onto wood and paper, for you to look atβ β Ravi Zupa
We hope you will join us on November 2nd starting at 6pm for βOne Million Thingsβ
OPENING RECEPTION: ONE MILLION THINGS November 2nd from 6pm β 11pm Artist in attendance Free and open to the public.
We also launched Ravi's new website today: www.ravizupa.com/home/

Ravi Zupa πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Gallery Show News, by Mr Murk on Jul 30, 2014 19:19:23 GMT 1, Ravi Zupa "Just a Moment.." Black Book Gallery
The title of the show, "Just A Moment..." is inspired by the point at which the HAL 9000 decides to initiate and carry out his plan. I, and most people, have been thinking about this for some time. We are in the midst of a slow collective realization, that leaves us feeling uneasy and precarious. Something that has, for a very long time, dwelt quietly in the shadows of conspiracy theory has, rather abruptly, stepped into the realm of conspiracy fact. The realization that the eyes of computers are opening wider every day and watching us with deep interest. The title is a bit misleading however, in the sense that I actually believe, there is little cause for pessimism and hysteria. This movement of machines into the world of humanity is not at all new.
In fact, Cervantes was aware of this very problem in the year 1600. Don Quixote was profoundly distrustful of the encroachment of machines and his only escape was madness.
I was recently given a beautiful antique printing press. A machine for producing art. Ironically, this machine is even more advanced than anything in Cervantes world, yet at our stage in history, it now oddly represents the value of the human hand in art.
This show is comprised of repetition. Nearly every piece has a print as the base which has then been painted on, drawn on, and again printed on to create a series of entirely unique, hand painted multiples.
Exhibit runs August 1st - 30th -- About Ravi Zupa All of Ravi Zupaβs images are drawn and painted by his hand. He considers books the best way to experience art and has spent decades studying art from cultures and movements that span history and originate from nearly all geographical regions. Being entirely self-taught, he looks for inspiration in works by German Renaissance print makers, Flemish primitives, abstract expressionists, Japanese woodblock artists, Mughal paintings, religious iconography from Europe, Asia and Pre-Columbian Latin America, and revolutionary propaganda the world over. With a distaste for ironic art or the thoughtless appropriation of culture, he integrates seemingly unrelated images in search of something universal.
www.theblackbookgallery.com/artists/ravi-zupa/
Prices range from $50 - $200
Ravi is also a part of the Art Alliance Exhibit opening tomorrow in Chicago -
Thanks for looking

Ravi Zupa πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Gallery Show News, by thriftypix on Jul 31, 2014 2:05:32 GMT 1, Arghh. Gutted that I missed the BBG email about the RZ show and available work, all thanks to an insane day at work. My favorites are gone. Oh well, will keep my eye on new pieces added over the next couple of days. The show IS all about repetition, after all. My guess is that another "favorite" will show before long.

Ravi Zupa πΊπΈ New Print Release β’ Gallery Show News, by Mr Murk on Aug 5, 2014 6:59:35 GMT 1, wow these are great. i'm a little confused as to how they were done... which parts are drawn and which parts are collage? Sorry I didn't respond sooner - The answer would be both - Every image you see in a piece Ravi has drawn/carved/printed and then he uses pieces and parts of these to collage onto/into a main piece. Lots of the paper Ravi is using to print on right now is old architecture maps and blueprints from the Denver area. You can see the text and designs from these within the collage and images.
The larger pieces that were just added include all of the collage elements but they also feature large scale paintings on paper mixed in.
The marionettes are cool too, Ravi fires and paints all the clay pieces and sews/fabricates all the other parts and accessories.
Annnd, Ravi was a part of Art Alliance "The Provocateurs" in Chicago - For the first time his handmade guns were for sale and both of those sold.
Ravi is not only very talented, hes also a great guy, very humble and hard working. He has a solo show in September in Mexico City and will be in Miami during Art Basel.
Thanks for reading, we appreciate your support and if you have any questions please let us know.

Including this recent purchase of mine. I am selling it for just over what I bought it for to cover fees. I also had it shipped over to the UK which reflected the price a bit but its not much more than I paid. PM me if your interested.
