Glwts! It's hard putting prices on invader after the crazy gallery price pump from last year, i don't think anyone has any realistic idea where the market is nowadays.

I want to sell, but won’t entertain any lowball offers.

I would have accepted the 10k and run for the hills. It’s not getting any better. The art peaked and is now on the decline. 30% down on 4 months ago when this was a 14k print

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by met on Aug 9, 2018 18:00:03 GMT 1, The flip potential of this forthcoming print is understood by me, as well as the completist instinct that Inv ader obsessives and collectors may have. I appreciate also how just the fact the work was created by Inv ader will generate great interest in it. Are there any thoughts on whether the piece is strong, and if so why? Query if there's an underlying idea that's interesting, and if the appeal is more than aesthetic. What I see is a 1980s arcade video game character given a makeover referencing a 1970s album and persona. Is there a connection between the two that makes this cross witty? I'm curious about the relevance of Aladdin Sane and the relation, if any at all, to Pac-Man. Or is the attraction for the most part visual? Maybe this marriage of nostalgic pop-culture iconography is simply intended to be random and amusingly silly — meaning that, strictly in terms of the idea, it wouldn't make a difference if the Pac-Man ghost were replaced by, say, Q*bert or Donkey Kong. That would be fine. The playfulness I enjoy about Inv ader would remain present. But there'd be a loss of a certain conceptual purity that I find throughout most of the artist's other work. Look forward to reading other views about the actual image — as opposed to speculation on release dates, pricing, and different editions for different castes of buyers. Defeat conceded.
My initial post in 2014 regarding Aladdin Sane never generated any real discussion about artistic concept.
In terms of visual detail, however, there is one aspect of the screenprints I had overlooked:
To Invader's credit, giving the ghosts permanently-dilated left pupils was a stroke of brilliance.

I've never understood this print or why it's so popular. Pretty looking, bright colours, and embossing give a good effect, but the image... Pffft!

I have never noticed that before. I think these might be my favourite Invader image, for no deeper reason than I find it aesthetically very pleasing, especially the pink variant. Thanks for pointing out the left eye met. One day Rodders!

One ghost eye being darker than the other was something I had spotted immediately. However, my brain took an embarrassingly long time to click and finally pick up on the intended reference.

As a possible future owner of Aladdin Sane, here's another anecdote which may be of interest, because the detail isn't noticeable on a computer screen:
About half a year after this Invader release, I was chatting with the printer. They mentioned the production effort involved, including in getting the desired look for the whites of the ghost eyes (learned a new word today: sclera).
If memory serves correctly, the eyes required five separate coats of white screen printing ink.
In a world where "Good enough" is a default setting for many individuals and businesses, that is what I would call admirable dedication.

Thanks met. I had already discussed this evening with my eldest the reference to Bowie’s eyes. He had told me that people often say incorrectly that Bowie had hetrochromia. He explained to me the difference between hetrochomia and central hetrochromia, and that Bowie had neither of these, but rather a permanently dilated pupil following a punch when he was young. Your comments about the printing process are both interesting and heartwarming (that such lengths would be taken to get it right).
Edit - I’ve now looked up sclera. Fortunately The The didn’t know that word. It just wouldn’t be the same.
