Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by phoj on Jan 24, 2017 18:15:40 GMT 1, Thanks a lot for the support guys. It ended up costing me, but now hopefully a lot of other people can avoid doing the same mistakes, and that helps.
mash the item was actually sub 1000 euros, making their pettiness even worse if you ask me.

That's still alot of money. Google review them, yelp review them, anything to hinder future sales. It's one thing alerting us on this forum but I bet (like you did) there's plenty of punters who aren't on here that run a review search. I hope someone removes their banner ad when their contracted real estate space is up...

Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by Sturban Has Saggy Tits on Jan 24, 2017 22:53:28 GMT 1, I think Blancs Manteaux auction have made a big mistake. This forum might only have hundreds of members posting, but there are thousands lurking in the background. Give it a couple of weeks for Google to start indexing these pages and it will be there on the first search pages for the world to see. Maybe they have as much care for their business as they do for the customers.

Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by Deleted on Jan 25, 2017 13:04:41 GMT 1, I feel it is time to update and write a full report of what happened, as this dispute became quite publical here. The issue arose when purchasing a print in their after sales from the last urban auction. I paid for the item the 13. october and sent a mail saying the money was on its way, and the artwork arrived at 8. november. When I received it, I was sceptical right away, as the tube had a low diameter. When I opened it, the print had also been very tightly wrapped inside the tube so it was free to move. It was also no brown paper or side protection or anything, the print was just packed inside a soft plastic sleeve, rolled and put inside the tube. When that also was free to move, I guess most of us can deduce where the damage came from. There was some edge damage of course, but the worst was that the paper was "broken" through the motive with significant wrinkles and creases. The right side of the print was also almost rectangular after being to tightly rolled. I see nukod means that it was not poor packaging in his other post, but I disagree. If further clarification is needed I will have no problem posting pictures of the tube and the plastic wrapping and so each member can decide for himself. I then immediately took pictures and sent a mail to Blancs regarding the damage. I recieved answer two days later where it stood amongst other things, and I quote directly: But for me, the artwork was like this when we send it to you.I then of course asked whether or not the print was damaged from before, when I in the start of the inquiry had asked about the condition of the print and gotten the answer that it was perfect. Five days later I had received no reply and so I sent a new mail asking. Two days later I had received no answer and so I asked whether the last mail had arrived. Four days later I had no answer and so I sent a new mail asking whether or not any of my mails were coming through. That day I finally got an answer where he offered me a compensation or a fee free next purchase. I now asked for contact information to the owner, as I was getting quite annoyed with the response times and effort this particular employee put in. I then received no answer to this. It turns out the fellow I was corresponding with actually was the owner and founder so yeez. I then sent three new mails, the 25., 26. and 30. of november where in the last I yielded my quest for a refund and return of the item as I was getting no answer and reached out to restorers. They gave me a quote, but said the injuries would probably never be good. I then conveyed this information and asked for a little on top to cover travel expenses to the restorer and got the answer that that amount was impossible. After three new days and more mails from me he agreed to pay for the restorer, but no travel expenses. I figured this was the best I was ever going to get (remember I did not pay by paypal or credit card - if so a case would have been opened long ago) and accepted. He then asked for the invoice when it came. As I had grown quite suspicious of these people (and besides I figured asking a restorer to bill a person in France would be tricky) I asked for the money up front. This was then the 2.d of december. And that was it. Complete radio silence where I sent seven mail up until the second week in january. They were posting on facebook and other social media, so he was just choosing to ignore my mails. This is probably the time where they, as he wrote in his other reply, were they "checked every other possible solution". Which is odd, given that they already had agreed on a solution. At the forum-members tips I then started adressing the issue on their social media channels and also got into contact with the second owner through a second polite email (I even asked if the fellow I had talked to perhaps had gone sick) and the correspondance again started the 18. january. He then expressed that he had no idea how the print had been injured as it had been packed to perfect standards (yeah) and said they had no legal obligation to reimburse me, but as they were very keen to keep good relations he would resolve the matter shortly. He then on the 22. january found out I have criticized the auction house in the second thread that is linked above here, and wrote that if I did not write that they had taken care of business and would refund me now to the full amount he was not sure he would like me to be refunded. I therefore wrote what I did above, to try to salvage something from my purchase. It seems he thinks I wrote that criticizm after he had said he would refund me, when it fact it was before. I am actually quite amazed on how these people are raging angry at me, where I at all times have written polite emails and offered quite a lot of solution paths. Anyways, he said then in PMs that I would be getting a full refund, and also wrote that here where "refunded his artwork price". The money has still not come, but yesterday they sent a mail and said they had wired the money, which turned out to be 40% of artwork price. I finally thought this was concluded, alas no. So I ended up getting the original asking for the attempt to get it restored, which is something I guess, but not exactly what I hoped for. I then sent them a mail asking why they said a full refund and made me write it, and then only sent 40%. I also said that I then of course had to update the post I had written where I said I got a full refund, and asked whether or not they wished to avoid that as it would probably cost them way more in bad press and loss of customers. They were not very happy that I was not very happy with the 40%, to say it the least. This ended in quite a lot of mails this morning where I ended up accused for blackmail, slightly threatened, and told to f**koff. Honestly, Is**t you not. Well rant over, I'm sure there's more to it and that the "auction house" sees it quite differently, but that is my side of the story and everything I have stated can be documented. Forum members can then decide for themselves what they think of the service. I'm on the other hand wagering that none of the money will arrive in my account, but will update if the 40% acctually comes through. Fair's fair. But I will never purchase from these people again. " he offered me a compensation or a fee free next purchase. "
It looks to me like BM did their best to rectify the situation.
Was it an expensive print?
Auction houses including the big name ones who charge hundreds have had problems when packing and shipping items and art.
These things happen and I guess the best way is to pick up an item from a saleroom once it's bought and paid for.
Did BM charge for the packing and shipping? , regarding prints and art on paper. It does require careful and sturdy packing. If they review their packing procedure, will be a good thing.

Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by phoj on Jan 25, 2017 13:35:01 GMT 1, @elviswarhol Well, his reasoning was that since he meant this problem was with the postal authorities and he had already paid the seller, he had no immediate solution. He then said he could offer me a compensation or a fee free next purchase. I then disagreed with him and meant it was his responsibility and that the packaging anyways was so insufficient that it would have been a miracle if it did not end up damaged. He did not reply to this, and so I sent him a new mail three days later reminding him of the issue and asked for a response and another a couple of days after that where I actually gave up and said I would try to get an estimate for restoration.
After sending him the estimate (bearing in mind that they even said that it would probably never be fine again) where I even then tried to be diplomatic he answered that the amount in question (which was the 40% previosuly discussed) was "impossible".
In the start of december he then offered me a reduced amount as described above and then did not answer to any mails ever again.
If that is to do their best to rectify the situation, I'd hate to see the worst.

Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by Happy Shopper on Jan 26, 2017 8:54:27 GMT 1, No way I'd have accepted a part refund on that damage.
Photos taken under creased plastic clearly aren't good enough on an auction site. There's no way to see what are creases in the plastic and what are the print. The damage appears to be from when it was rolled.

Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by phoj on Jan 26, 2017 11:29:51 GMT 1, Well then, now you see what I have been dealing with...
I asked about the condition of the print, because I also felt that pictures taken under dirty plastic may not show the whole truth and I honestly thought it looked a bit shady. A direct quote from our correspondance regarding this matter: Yes, the artwork is in perfekt condition.
The pictures I took are linked here I see also now. I asked them several times if they wanted me to take better pictures in better light. As it was evening when I picked up the print and wanted to document the damage quickly I took some pictures in a poor light, the damage is actually quite a lot worse than these pictures display, even though that even those show that the print is in a very poor condition. The last two pics show that the entire right side of the print is folded, it was actually almost rectangular when I opened it because the paper was broken. If wanted I'll take better pictures and post for the forum to see.
He also writes the purchase sum was 800, this is not correct; it was 850 euros. This can of course easily also be documented.
When it comes to that I allegedly demanded an amount of money to restore it, and dit not want to refund it - I don't know if I should laugh or cry. In the mail when I sent the picture I wrote (direct quote from the mail:) I do not how you wish to proceed in what is a boring matter for the both of us? If you want me to send it back, just cover the return shipping cost.
The reply I got after several days: I've to check all of this with my expert and the seller. I'll do it on next tuesday.
But for me, the artwork was like this when we send it to you.
I can make a little move, for a compensation, in order to restore it. But a refund will be hard.
This is when I asked what he meant by that "the artwork was like this", and 11 days went without any answer - in which he offered me a fee free next purchase.
Well then, now you see what I have been dealing with...

Then how can they be held responsible?
This is also the general condescending tone I have been communicated with.

Blancs-Manteaux Auctions , by phoj on Jan 26, 2017 12:20:23 GMT 1, As a positive update they did not manage to stop the 350 euros I got for promising to verify to the forum that I had been given a full refund (as I of course would have, had I actually been given a full refund), it arrived in my account today. So it is just 500 down the drain then.

That's a little bonus for the hassle you've had. It doesn't look like you will get anymore out of these clowns. It's crazy that they are willing to get this bad reputation and potential huge loss of business over what is a relatively small amount of money to them. I would now just make sure your voice is heard across all social media channels. I noticed you have left a Facebook review, but no Google review yet.

What I find totally horrible is that they still have a 4.1/5 facebook reference, which is perhaps not so odd when there are so few reviews and some (maybe most) are posted by themselves. Hopefully my review (and their response) will be sufficient to avoid other people doing the same mistake I did.
