Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by rob123rob on May 29, 2007 0:00:03 GMT 1, Maybe I'm a little slow, but I don't get it. Forgetting the possibility that it has been relisted because of a non-payment from the first auction, what's the name of this game? How many times can you list and sell the same item before actually having to send it to a "winning" bidder?

Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by rob123rob on May 31, 2007 0:07:44 GMT 1, I just got a message back from the seller, he says that it has been relisted due to a non-payment. Still, I think that mentioning this fact in the description is a good idea. And I was almost believing his story, until it dawned on me that there is one big difference in this so-called "re-listing": the starting bid is now at 2k!. I know I'm a cynical piece of poop, but come on.

If so, it's worth a couple of hundred.
I can't believe people are bidding on it at that price!

Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by hungrig on Mar 21, 2007 12:02:16 GMT 1, I disagree. This one looks fine.
The only awkwardness is the lack of edition number, meaning it's outside of the regular edition. Prints with no edition number should not automatically be dismissed as 'back door' or fake. [Cock-ups happened on occasion with POW and, of course, at the time they didn't really matter.] However, it does make the print very difficult to authenticate should you decide to on-sell in the future. That in turn will seriously impact upon its value.
Not even Laz knows exactly how many signed copies of 'Queen Vic' are out there. His guesstimate was around 50.

You know this for a fact do you?
Personally I wouldn't bid without checking out the provenance, but I love the way people here say things with 100% certainty based on nothing but guesswork.

Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by hungrig on Mar 21, 2007 12:24:25 GMT 1, abdoujaparov,
Regarding my last two paragraphs, yes, I do know this for a fact.
Regarding my opinion in the first paragraph, I said this particular signed 'Queen Vic' print looks fine. That is my opinion, on the balance of probabilities. There was no 100% certainty mentioned or even implied. Perhaps your reference to 'guesswork' was simply flippant, but I can assure you that I have done my homework on this piece. Nothing I post on this Forum is based on guesswork.

Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by cru5tee on Mar 21, 2007 12:47:58 GMT 1, So, it's still not 100% certain it's for real. At that kind of money I would want FULL provenance. Anyway, if it were genuine what kind of price should it be in relation to a signed and stamped edition?

Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by BME on Mar 21, 2007 13:45:55 GMT 1, Hi Abdou,
We rarely know anything for certain and its this uncertainty that allows the fake market to flourish. Still, there are a few things that we can say.
If the print isn't numbered then its not part of the official run. As such it will be worth only a fraction of the numbered version. I recall a discussion that was posted on the lightside last year. Apparently someone asked Steve at LAZinc about their value- his response was something along the lines of 'f**k all'.
This is pretty much backed up by my own observations. In over the past three years I've seen several signed but unnmbered banksy prints appear on ebay, punk daisy was also selling them at one stage. Some are genuine but the last ebay sale I recall was a signed (but unnumbered) bomb hugger that went for a BIN of about £750 late last year. A couple of months ago I was also offered a signed but unnumbered love rat for £900- I knocked it back. £900 might have been a reasonable price to pay (I was completely broke so it made little difference) but at £2400 I woudn't go near it.
Anyway, its a case of preaching to the converted here. Most people on the forum would not bid £2400 for an unnumbered print and would certainly contact POW/ LAZ before doing so. Its the rest of the wrold that you've got to worry about

Banksy Queen Victoria Print, by smashedhat on Mar 21, 2007 13:57:04 GMT 1, I'd take Laz's valuations with a hefty pinch of salt. He is, after all, Banksy's agent and it's in his interest to talk down the valuations of work that he won't see any cut of.
Ultimately the piece is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it, and I'd suggest that us as forum members would be better judges of that than Laz.
I'd pay money for a genuine signed banksy piece to go on my wall if it wasn't numbered. It's clearly not investment material but we buy art not just as investments but also because we like to be surrounded by beautiful things, right?
The real value is probably mid way between "fxxk all" and "sxxt loads"
