House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by andrewd on Feb 12, 2007 15:56:27 GMT 1, Good job it's not in Hackney or the council would have had it buffed by now ( The Times on Saturday had a piece about some Banksys in Gillette Square which were revealed to be hidden behind hoardings, took all of a day to wipe them clean despite a decision being taken to allow then to stay! ) Hugs is right you won't find a POW stamp on it and of course Laz don't provide provenance for street art.

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by hugs on Feb 12, 2007 20:30:07 GMT 1, The whole area down there is covered in Graf,it's a small miracle that it's lasted this long. I did notice last friday while going down the m32 that the very old banksy tag on the bridge over the motorway has been got at,someone has sprayed "wrong" over the tag ie B has w A has r etc. Lets be honest,it's a piece of street art and nobdy can really protect it in situ. Mido, you ben down there, whats your view mate? I would not be suprised with all the publicity that it's had of late that someone hasn't go over it which would be a real shame,Bristol has some great work still to be seen and this is probably about the biggest piece still intact (maybe take the money & run is bigger)

It should be left to the vandals and the elements, at the end of the day it's just a decent piece of graf, hundreds better than this get buffed everyday.

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by mido on Feb 12, 2007 23:41:51 GMT 1, basically agreee with you on it all! (that's probably a first for me ;-)
It's a great early piece (i.e. don't expect social comment, rats or humour) and in AMAZING condition. It is very big (far bigger than take the money....). It's a weird concept of somehow preserving it...
I also noticed M32 bridge last week so maybe it's only just been done??

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by stillborncrisps on Feb 16, 2007 13:45:54 GMT 1, they only want buyers who will keep it, but how they could enforce that I'm not sure.
I think by selling it through a gallery at well over market price for the actual house will pretty much ensure the person who buys it will want to keep it. Easton's not exactly the hot-spot of Bristol in terms of des-res.
Couldn't enforce a 'no white washing' though. What's to stop any of us painting over any piece of art we own if we want.

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by becksaboo on Mar 31, 2007 23:35:44 GMT 1,
The people who own the house actually own the gallery but refuse to admit this- so basically they're trying to make an extra Β£40k off the back of his name and are doing a very good marketing job. My mate's a journo and the owners actually went to a discussion evening with him and asked for advise on lying to journos. I don't really see the point though- who cares if the gallery owners actually own it?!
Maybe Banksy himself should go down there and paint April's Fool all over it- that'll learn them!

Hahahaaaa... if this is true then good on them. :-D
Well, today is the final day for 'sealed bids'. Wonder if they got any? The house (21 Mivart St, BS5 6JF) is currently empty.
Ooh, and look... they are still selling it through a regular estate agents: www.homesonview.co.uk/Scripts/ShowProperty.asp?CompanyID=OCENBISH&AgencyID=OCENBISH&ID=OBP04197

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by stillborncrisps on Apr 3, 2007 13:53:28 GMT 1, Just had a peek through the Land Registry site, and yes, Sarah and David Anslow are the owners of that house, and also the Red Propellor Gallery (which the house is supposedly being sold through). :-D
They made a good story out of it though, and at least they're trying to keep the artwork intact.

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by stillborncrisps on Aug 7, 2007 23:43:14 GMT 1, Yikes - the piece on the side of the house has been vandalised: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/6599661.stm
Weird thing is the people selling it (the Red Propellor Gallery owners) said the sealed bids will have to be returned - yet this happened nearly 3 weeks after the closing date. So guessing no bids came close to their Β£200k price then. ;-)

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by becksaboo on Aug 8, 2007 22:40:33 GMT 1, I think they sold it for Β£165k but it fell through....they run the red propeller gallery so I'm sure they'll see this thread and could confirm.
also, didn't they want to turn it into some kind of banksy gallery/meeting place?

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by Pure Evil on Aug 10, 2007 8:40:26 GMT 1, "But it's not the first time one of his murals has been defaced.
Mural stolen
Workers on the London Underground painted over a Pulp Fiction-inspired piece earlier this month after mistaking it for ordinary graffiti.
And in March, a mural in east London was almost entirely removed by thieves.
One of Banksy's early murals was mistakenly painted over in the same month by Bristol City Council's graffiti-removal contractors.
And in February two smaller works in London were also painted over.
"
This is so retarded... its graffiti... graffiti is by its nature disposable and it WILL get painted over... EVERY TIME..
The whole story about the 'PULP FICTION PIECE' being painted over by London Underground is bullsh*t.. after the London Bombing (real bombs, not graffiti 'bombing') somebody went over the piece with a big 'F*CK OFF AL QUAIDA' which was brilliant and summed up how people in the East End felt about the bombs...
It IS annoying if people just chuck paint over a piece, if somebody does a piece over a piece then that is acceptable behaviour. You just have to be a bit zen about it... and make your own piece bigger and better the next time.

House for sale with Banksy work attatched, by kingkambo on Aug 10, 2007 11:33:57 GMT 1, I agree with Mr Evil, i used to live In Bankside and was lucky enough to see a giant Monkey Queen and a Piece called Cheque Book Vandalism both of which were breathtaking, they lasted a good few months before being removed. Street Art should be viewed as a temporary exibiton to be enjoyed while it lasts! Graffiti is a temporary instalation, if the local council does have the forsight to try and protect these pieces all good and well, but if its on private property and the owners decide to paint over it, thats life...
If anyone is familier with the area Banksy, also done a series around the Queens Guards (on hoardings by the Anchor Pub) in various poses which were fantastic, i have not seen many photo's of these ( i did take some grainy images on a disposable) and would be gateful if anyone can point me in the right direction to see good quality pics of these works...
Just checked out Pureevil.eu very good website with some excellent work... (can i get my free print now please?)
p.s hello everyone on the forum, its great, i should have joined years ago!!!
