Commemorating David Hockney RA's The Arrival of Spring, Normandy, 2020 exhibition at the Royal Academy, we are pleased to present this Vide-Poche edition featuring one of the 116 works on show.

Limited to 200, each piece is hand cast in Fine Bone China, numbered and presented in a clothbound box. Made in Stoke-on-Trent exclusively for the RA Shop.

Like the look of this - ok it's small but again hard to pick up anything limited by Hockney for this sort of money. See they are made in batches of 20, so the earlier you purchase quicker you get. Loved the show when I visited earlier this year so nice little reminder. Thanks for posting👍

The man is a legendary smoker. Would be wonderful if it’s an ashtray. Makes so much sense. And would be great if there’s a story that the artist wanted to make an ashtray but RA is reluctant - so they made one without calling it an ashtray.

100% agree on this! I've been reading his biography recently (finished the early years one) now onto volume 2. Really interesting read and clear that Hockney was something special from the start. He's always been opinionated and didn't hold back from making his views known. Looking forward to getting mine (although not a smoker) 😉

A vide-poche literally means 'empty pocket'.

Back in the days it was often used to put your rings or change on when you were getting ready for bed.

Nowadays it is often bought to sell it for a profit later on.

I like this, not a bad size at about 8 x 6 inch. You could display it like a plate on the sideboard or easily in a nice white box frame with no glass and stick it in the toilet!

yeah I hear you and thankfully he has a few quid to give away and always does. It’s where I get my generosity from 😉 not sure what the hell he will do with it, but just know he likes Hockney.

Usually these things are made out of leather / felt for a reason.

Here's mine. Ordered yesterday arrived this afternoon! Nice little item but looking at it I think it's 100% designed as an ashtray! Very appropriate for Hockney then👍He's having a laugh - expect to see him using one in next PR photos from his Studio......
