David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by curiousgeorge on Dec 24, 2008 9:47:11 GMT 1, Anyone see this last night?
About an American artist chasing his dream, he took over 8 years to complete one drawing of Marilyn Monroe
I feel asleep during the important last 40 minutes or so, available online here.
www.channel4.com/video/brandless-catchup.jsp?vodBrand=true-stories-waiting-for-hockney#
No spoilers if you didn't see it, the work that i did see totally smacked me in my face and stopped me in my tracks due to level of detail (10,00 DPI!!!)
The mouth alone took over 800 hours

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by Bram on Dec 24, 2008 11:52:49 GMT 1, I watched it, the guy was disillusioned. Took him 8 years for what could have been 2 weeks (from 2 foot away). David Hockney was obviously underwhelmed. By the time you got to see the actual drawing, I'd already given up the will to live.

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by jay1882 on Dec 24, 2008 12:04:08 GMT 1, I caught bits and pieces of it. Interesting idea for a docu. but it was far too long and over indulgent. Yeah, the drawing was incredibly detailed...but ultimately what was the point? Surely Chuck Close has things wrapped up in that genre anyway?

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by dotdot on Dec 24, 2008 12:33:53 GMT 1, Yeah I caught it 30mins in.. then thought "its on for ages yet" ...before hockney tuned in so to speak.. have tivo'ed it - will ff through it when i have time.
The idea was interesting though - from what i saw - if slightly over the top ...which kind of made me tune in - I was thinking "ok how over the top ?" reality kicked in i hit record..later.

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by Existencil on Feb 17, 2009 18:17:01 GMT 1, I've come into posession of a Hockney self portrait from around 1986. It's an original on paper.
Any ideas where I could go for a valuation?
Cheers,

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by lee3 on Feb 18, 2009 17:35:16 GMT 1, >>>Any ideas where I could go for a valuation? <<<
I'd call Christie's or Sotheby's post war departments and they'll get you a good idea in less than a week. If it's charcoal or graphite on a piece of paper around 20 inches square (and takes up most of the sheet), you can figure on the high end it's worth $20,000 and on the low end $7,500 (maybe even $5k in this market). If it's a REALLY good one and on a larger piece of paper up to say 30 inches square, it could be worth $50 to $60k (again graphite or charcoal)
If it has crayon, watercolor, or colored pencil and is REALLY good, it could be worth as much as $100k. And if you're lucky enough to have his self portrait with a pool behind him or a lover near him, then the sky is the limit.

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by rperry on Nov 21, 2011 16:58:32 GMT 1, I have had this for years but never really had the right space for it. I am contemplating letting it go, but I thought I may post it here first.
David Hockney, He tore himself in two, etching circa '69, S/N out of 100. $1500 US
I also have another Brit you may be interested in, I bought this such a long time ago, I have not looked up values as it is his early style and at the time I got it at auction (early '90's) I could find nothing on it. Back when we had to utilize books/catalogues for research ;D
Howard Hodgkin "girl at night" lithograph circa '65 or '66. As I understand it he made 5 prints, called 5 rooms, these were his first prints. Possible trades on this. Not really interested in cash.
If anyone is serious, then I will get them out of storage (big pain) and take close ups, etc.

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by rperry on Nov 21, 2011 17:21:55 GMT 1, FD: good question
Hodgkin roughly 50 x 65 cm, edition of 75 S/N
Hockney 45 x 32 cm
About pricing I really don't know, I was thinking somebody has something they like but probably won't hang, I'm not looking for a signed Banksy
edit: I hate it when people post vague listings then keep saying keep the offers coming in. I spent the last few minutes googling the print and one is for auction in December. The estimate is 1800-2000 euros. I'm not looking for that much but it lets you know roughly where the print stands. I'm just looking for something interesting.
www.liveauctioneers.com/item/10279421
edit 2: older auction 2008:
www.bloomsbury-book-auct.com/auction.php?pageID=1&setPerPage=636&sale=655
sold 1500 GBP, again not interested in cash sale so check out your storage and maybe 2 sleepers can find a wall ;D

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by rperry on Nov 21, 2011 20:27:06 GMT 1, Due to the huge response I am getting re: the Hodgkin print. I took photos. They are crappy IPhone ones, so if serious individual would like Leica pictures of something specific, let me know ;D
First off, I was assuming anyone talking to me about this print understands it is 46 years old. It is in excellent shape for it's age. However in the 60's-70's conservation framing existed in the museums. prints weren't the business they are today.
Recto:

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by rperry on Nov 21, 2011 20:34:06 GMT 1, Verso:
Note the remnants of old hinges. There is NO foxing, and to remove gunk is an easy fix by a professional if so desired. However if it lasted 46 years like that it will go a few more. Also note original price
I tried to show handling marks caused over the years BEFORE it came to me. It has been stored flat between acid free paper since 1994.

It is going to a new home. I thank the other people interested in the print. But I think I told everyone I would consider offers as they were received, as it seemed the fairest way for both parties.
