Tracey Emin π¬π§ New Release β’ Exhibition News β’ For Sale, by Dungle on Apr 24, 2022 8:48:20 GMT 1, Solid response well done π Far from her best
What would you consider to be her best?
Itβs all about opinions and these threads tend to actually mean something if people elaborate on their opinions.
This place has really died a death in terms any art discussion. People only get excited by how much they can flip something for.

Tracey Emin π¬π§ New Release β’ Exhibition News β’ For Sale, by Love Is In The Air on Apr 24, 2022 9:07:02 GMT 1, I haven't been yet Dungle so I hope you are right and it is up there with her best work. For me that would include her powerful large scale blankets and neons, and even the large scale paintings in bright reds I thought worked so well hung up against the Munchs in the Royal Academy fairly recently.
These new works in Margate seems to be primarily in black so look quite morbid on first glance of the photos of the show which I think explains some of the reaction, but at the the same time I think most Emin fans are just delighted to see her painting again. I will reserve judgement until I have been to the show and am excited to see them and what she does next.
As an aside I thought her last big show at White Cube in around 2019 was strong too and was very emotive about the loss of her mother. And although it is like choosing a Greatest Hits album as a best, I have happy memories of viewing her retrospective at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art on a sunny weekend in Edinburgh a few years back now which obviously showed off a lot of her great works from over the years.
I'm hoping to get down to Margate in the next week or so but look forward to hearing what others think.

Completely agree in terms of art discussion , Dungle.
Itβs become so binaryβ¦ βI donβt like it so it must be shit and Iβll ridicule anyone who likes itβ. Itβs very odd and smacks to me of a deep seated insecurity.
Iβve seen the prints in the flesh - unframed and presented together. I found the scale, range, intimacy and, of course, the subject matter right up there with anything Iβve seen by the artist. Unlike Love Is In The Air (above) I didnβt particularly enjoy the works I saw in the Mumch/Emin show - I found them rather βobviousβ and βgrand guignolβ. With these works, using a βsadβ blue, she has (for me) achieved a melancholy that Iβve rarely seen in her work. A true glimpse into her soul, if you like.
I very much look forward to seeing the full show now that it has opened. And itβs good to be discussing the work of a leading artist rather than staring at snide comments and wondering why folk bother.
Looking forward to an ice cream In Margate

That show in Edinburgh was amazing, looking forward to her exhibition at Jupiter Artland this year too, the sculpture looks great

Completely agree LIITA. Some of my most enjoyable afternoons have been spent discussing the merits or otherwise of work whilst stood before a piece with someone who doesnβt see it in the same light that I do.

Bed? I think her sculptures and embroidery are as important as her paintings.
As for these prints they're great but not her best work let's get real.
Agreed this forum is pretty much useless these days unless like me, you get immense pleasure reading posts by people talking up the latest print they purchased in the hope of flipping it.
That's what's going on here and it fools no one

Sadly it was short lived, the Tories killing access to Uni with increased fees and now no one but the affluent middle class can afford to take similar risks and their biographies are simply not as interesting. Banksy's rise and rise could be considered as a logical response to this lack of access with many taking to the streets to find (and create) value outside the institution. Always thought their was a linear logic between the YBA's and Bansky long before their first collab.

Iβm not sure anyone in their right minds would buy these thinking they could flip them?

Tracey Emin π¬π§ New Release β’ Exhibition News β’ For Sale, by Horatio Nelson on Apr 24, 2022 14:45:51 GMT 1, One of the things I love about Traceyβs work is that she creates work which is heartfelt and not over-worked on. The drawings are spontaneous and raw. Sometimes (often) that results in things produced which arenβt to everyoneβs aesthetic taste, but the images are all very honest.
They are also important milestones in her oeuvre in an autobiographical sense. We will look back in decades to come knowing that 2020-202[X] was the period where she produced self-portraits that looked like this. Hard to put that into context without retrospect, but I just love the fact that weβre living through this period of productivity, even if not every image has βbuy meβ screaming out from it.

Absolutely right. I would add the opening of the Tate Modern in 2000 was another factor in the attitudes to art and accessibility

Looking forward to an ice cream In Margate HB
I was lucky enough to go yesterday and the show is incredible. The scale of the works is breathtaking. Given what she has been through over the last few years, the underlying power and message is even more remarkable.

Having never flipped a print, thatβs not whatβs going on here.
Personally I believe that Traceyβs legacy will be considerably larger than the bed and tent pieces. Yes they helped launch a career and a movement, but that doesnβt make them the best work.

Are they selling the Counter Edition prints from the exhibition?

Yes. Theyβre all on display too. Very niceβ¦ but the originals make them look a little weakβ¦ which youβd expect I suppose!

Crazy price for a screen print. That makes the counter editions seem like a very good deal
