Gallery accounts/Multiple accounts, by Howard Johnson on Feb 12, 2016 23:20:12 GMT 1, I'd also like to get a bit more clarification on this issue. Like many other members here I often sell art to finance my own collection, and recently opened up a website. Should I now switch my status to "gallery"? I keep my collection and website listings separate, and do not "flip" pieces purchased from members.

Gallery accounts/Multiple accounts, by tab1 on Feb 13, 2016 1:03:51 GMT 1, Apologies if I'm dragging something up that has already been discussed with conclusions reached. I have a few questions for the forum: 1. There's often mention of members with multiple accounts. Why is it so hard for guardians to enforce this when, from what i can gather, IP addresses are linked to accounts? 2. Similarly, a number of members on here are clearly 'gallery' representatives. I use the term 'gallery' loosely as most are just IG flippers but still. Why are these members allowed to get away with it, while other members like Prescription Art, who are transparent in their status, are restricted from selling? 3. When ebay links are banned, why is it acceptable for a gallery to post a link to an item on their own website? Note: This definitely isn't a dig at guardians. Just curious.
I think galleries pay a fee for advertising hence they can use links to their sites .
Pretty lax on this site really I've visited other forums and they have 50 post rules before sales but also £10 membership to skip this .
This site has always been a resource for flipping prints etc , read the old threads from 2006 most are about what print next will be worth on the aftermarket etc

Gallery accounts/Multiple accounts, by rebelate on Feb 13, 2016 2:45:47 GMT 1, I have given up on this. I had a lot to do with exposing many of these guys in the beginning and ultimately they got "banned" but since they already have so many usernames they don't necessarily even have to make new ones. I've also been threatened via PM on this forum and others by scum like Newartonline and fineartacquisitions. Just start up an older one. There's no real stopping them.
I feel like the forum needs a lot of fixing - including not being able to be searchable via google (basically a private forum where you need to be a member to log in and read threads). Many of these "galleries" and "get rich quick flippers" find us that way, sign up and try to manipulate the system... and excuse my language but "sh*t where they eat." They aren't accountable people, I wouldn't ever risk giving them thousands of dollars because it's only a matter until someone gets burned by what is already dishonest activity. It's one thing if they were building reputations but for most of these guys its a form of hustle and get rich quick attitude.
Meanwhile, we're not allowed to comment on pricing when we think someone posts a price that's way too high, but at the same time these guys are able to make multiple accounts, manipulate honest sellers by low balling and using multiple accounts to lower pricing...then they turn around and try to flip the print back to us for thousands of dollars over what it's actually worth under a different name.
At the end of the day, I've washed my hands of it. They all already manipulate the market and have been doing so for a while now. My only hope is they get stuck with all the inventory when the bubble they've created does pop, but I fear they'll get away scot free.
Before I get heat from any particulate member/gallery/multiple account owner - I wasn't talking about anyone in particular... Except for newartonline/Gironawatch, and fineartacquistions - or whatever their usernames are now a days...they are both tossers. LOL

Gallery accounts/Multiple accounts, by trapnel1 on Feb 13, 2016 10:15:33 GMT 1, I'll comment from a personal perspective, but please don't take this as an official position!
We would like the status of all members to be transparent, and encourage disclosure of gallery connections. Sometimes a member may (for example) work for a gallery, but also buy in a personal capacity. They might then have a personal account here for that purpose. However, they should not abuse that to support the position of the gallery. It's something that needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis, so if you are concerned about specific examples please PM a guardian.
In relation to question 3, I don't know! I suspect that if a specific gallery seemed to be abusing this that we would do something. The issue with eBay links was a clear decision and is in the rules - if this was allowed the forum would be covered with posts linking to eBay, bumped every couple of hours as the auction neared the end. Members would very soon tire of this.
Finally, my impression is that the guardians are a group of ordinary members doing their best to make this a better place. In many cases we haven't even met each other in real life. We try to discuss things and make decisions by consensus where possible. We don't always get it right, but where we don't we will be happy to put our hands up and try to fix it. The forum is best when it flows without too much intervention, but we are happy to talk to any member with concerns via PM.

LOL I strongly disagree that the forum should be closed off from an internet search. Just last week I had to use a forum link (well, not this forum) to get a refund via Paypal from some crazy f**king c**t who tried to steal my deposit on a print. If anyone here were to get in a similar situation, that is, you think you bought a fake print, or that something dodgy is going on, a thread here with input from galleries and collectors could be of the utmost help in obtaining a refund.

This forum has little to no bearing what so ever on the Banksy market at all! Keep dreaming my man because you'll never own a Banksy at this rate! f**king A man just buy one already and STFU
Once again, Fineartacquistion's boyfriend chimes in... Mods since we're on topic is any of this a forum of abuse?
1. I own Banksy works. 2. I've been to 3 auctions. Auctions can be easily manipulated by many with self interest. I personality believe last years Bonhams was manipulated. Moreover, uneducated bidders that don't know better and keep raising a paddle until his equal gives out or chandelier bidding is stopped is not someone who I want dictating the market. That would be the sheep leading the sheep - you can go ahead and believe that "data" which I call anomalies. 3. I know plenty of people who have money and buy banksys - including originals. However they didn't get to where they are now by "not giving a sh*t" about it's price vs value and throwing money away.
I'm done here.
I have given up on this. LOL You really think people are manipulating the market on here? LOL I want what your smoking dude! You really think that this forum dictates Banksy prices? Money talks and bulls**t walks! Speaking of which I've done several deals with NewArtOnline and all has been well every time! Well packed shipped on time and I was a happy customer all 4 times! I just can't sit back and watch you self destruct every time someone brings up a Banksy price. You are the ULTIMATE guide and authority on all things Banksy! Are you sure your not LAZ? Just curious? You are off your rocker mate! I know your new to this whole Banksy thing but trust me people with money don't give a s**t! They buy it because A they can afford B They just want a Banksy! Gallery accounts/Multiple accounts, by Daniel Silk on Feb 15, 2016 14:43:06 GMT 1, Apologies if I'm dragging something up that has already been discussed with conclusions reached. Why are these members allowed to get away with it, while other members like Prescription Art , who are transparent in their status, are restricted from selling? 3. When ebay links are banned, why is it acceptable for a gallery to post a link to an item on their own website? Note: This definitely isn't a dig at guardians. Just curious. 1. Its not always obvious to sort out.
2. Nobody is restricted from selling anything on here, its just that galleries should sell and advertise with threads in the correct boards, while normal members only should sell within the Sales board.
3. Its fine for Galleries to advertise as long as they are sensible about the amount of posting and threads they make. The problem with ebay links is that the forum gets swamped with people only using the forum to push their ebay sales by posting links every day or even ever hour to try and get more bids.
Thanks

Gallery accounts/Multiple accounts, by Happy Shopper on Feb 15, 2016 15:01:02 GMT 1, The multiple account thing is an issue but, as it's impossible to stop banned members from rejoining with a new name, the theory has always been to remove the double account and let them remain with their main one. That way we know who they are and keep track!
Galleries/Flippers pretending to be Collectors is another issue. They don't seem to realise that they're wasting their time and people would respect them more if they were honest. It's really naive to think people won't figure it out.
