Drolleries, by Coach on Jan 4, 2016 21:22:38 GMT 1, I love these, thanks for sharing. I'd heard of them but brilliant to see. Remind me of what might happen if Heironymus Bosch had typeset manuscripts. And good to see the timeless appeal of fart jokes. =]
Unsurprisingly, The Garden of Earthly Delights is one of my favorite paintings. I have a beautiful large hardback book devoted to just that one painting.

Drolleries, by Deleted on Jan 5, 2016 12:22:07 GMT 1, As it's quite quiet on here, I thought I might amuse myself, and maybe one or two others, with some drolleries. As some of you will know I have an interest in illuminated medieval manuscripts. I thought I might share a little of that interest with you. Yes, I appreciate that this is about as far from urban art as one can get, so if the FG's want to move this, so be it. Drolleries are small figures, often part human and part animal, drawn or painted in the margin of medieval books. Most are Books of Hours, religious texts for the wealthy layman. What I like about these is the humour, often quite base.
I invite you to follow this website, a real gold mine !! publicdomainreview.org/

Drolleries, by nds on Jan 5, 2016 14:45:56 GMT 1, Coach do you have any medieval manuscripts as the whole books themselves, such as a complete book of hours, or do you buy the leafs (if that's the correct manuscript terminology)?
I went to look at some manuscripts at the John Rylands Library in Manchester and Lincoln cathedral not so long ago, each conserved in glass cases, just wonder.
Am I correct in stating that certain paints used in medieval illuminated manuscripts were toxic or contain high levels of radiation (something like that)?
Apart from a huge bag of cash, do you have any advice with regards to how one can go about collecting medieval illuminated manuscripts?

Drolleries, by Deleted on Jan 5, 2016 15:09:44 GMT 1, Illuminated manuscripts can be bought off Ebay and other places.
Some are not expensive.
This guy makes stunning manuscripts true to the original and makes pigments from plants and other things himself. he even dresses the part. www.randyasplund.com/pages/articleexhibit.html
A lot of stuff used centuries ago was toxic.
