There is nothing wrong with enforcing border checks.  But that doesn't mean Trump's can go around and say "Mexicans are rapists, criminals and drug dealers" which he has (more than once).

From my understanding he had his weapons prior to his illness, so it’s not the checks that failed, but law enforcement not removing them from his possession when they had the power to do so.

But yeah, those pushing to ban guns, or specific types are wasting their energy. If they redirect it towards promoting mental health treatment, and enforcement of existing laws, maybe some positive change can come about. The best part with that too is it’s not nearly as partisan of an issue so it’s something that could potentially get accomplished.

There is probably some law where the police are not allowed to access the persons medical file without a court order and if the person ha snot committed any crime at that point, if they confiscate his guns and ammo he could sue the police etc etc. If he had not threatened anyone with violence at least.

  I had a gun an automatic pistol pulled on me by a neighbour, a nasty drug user. Told the police and they were not remotely interested in the fact he had an illegal handgun. There again the guy was a police informer.

Odd nobody wants to talk mental health and access
To guns on here when the relationship to illness,
Medications, and well publicized mass shootings is obvious and known. The elephant in the room though can be dismissed with just saying, hey! They are idiots!!!

Not forgetting the drug culture and people on cocaine and other drugs that use guns.

  Mental health , medications, programming by movies, media etc could be a factor where an individual becomes detached from society.

 I don't know if there is a long slow build up to a mass shooting or whether someone who has access to a gun just flips out and goes on the rampage.

In some cases the shooting was planned or thought about for a long time including years.

 There again look at the arms trade and the collatoral damage and mass deaths by British and other countries produced arms.

  Cluster bombs and land mines and other stuff all produced and sold legally to any dictator with mental issues because it is good for the economy.
