im hopin AA do another McGee as this one I like but itโs too much and the simple cheaper one is just a digital print with a barking and Fluro on it

Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by Smokeidaeye on Nov 4, 2023 16:53:00 GMT 1, Yeah, I don't get that one unless it is a USPS or "Hello My Name Is" graffiti slap type sticker? He's hand finishing a portion of them once the edition sizes are settled so why not just sign them all on the front at the same time?
For the record, I've never been a fan of Damien Hirst's trend of siging stickers for all of his recent prints either. It means the artist never even comes close to interacting with your actual piece of art. Plus you can't see it once framed, plus will stickers age as well as the actual print over the years?
B!tching aside, I still love the print and will likely be grabbing a HF edition.

I don't think there is a difference other than the smaller edition size, AP marking, and price. I went with the regular. I usually only try for APs if they're different/embellished or the same price.

Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by nottheway on Nov 5, 2023 6:35:33 GMT 1, I'm wondering why people are saying this is a great print. To me it looks like 1970s wallpaper with a terrible drawing on it.
I appreciate your perspective, and it's entirely valid that art is subjective. What some may perceive as '1970s wallpaper with a terrible drawing' could be meaningful and beautiful to others. Art is a deeply personal experience, and different people resonate with different styles and artists. For example, some people may not connect with Kaws' work, dismissing it as 'just animation,' while others find profound artistic value in it. That's the beauty of art... it's a diverse and inclusive realm where everyone can discover their unique preferences and interpretations.
While you may not see the same beauty in this print as some others do, it's important to acknowledge that diverse perspectives enrich the art world and make it a vibrant and dynamic space for creativity and expression. So, while we may have differing views, I respect your honest opinion, and I hope we can continue to discuss and appreciate art on this forum, even when our preferences diverge.

He only talks about the hand-finished - as if they are the only edition - and how heโll be interacting with each print etc.
Ed Templeton on Instagram, described them as posters - ouch!

I appreciate your diplomacy and respectfulness. Can those who do see the beauty in this print explain what they see in it? And if you do like it, did you grow up in the 60s or 70s? I'm wondering if his work only appeals visually to those of that age. I'm not counting those who are younger and see the dollar signs, just aesthetically speaking.
I agree that art is subjective and that anyone can appreciate art for any random reason, but I don't think that all art is good. There's a lot of terrible art and just because one or a group of people, even the majority of people like a painting or a particular song, I don't think that it means it's good.

Barry McGee ๐บ๐ธ Mission School Art Movement, by brownbuffalo13 on Nov 5, 2023 20:15:17 GMT 1, Interesting takes on this print and the underdogs print.
I have quite a few Barry Mcgee prints in my collection and the signatures always vary, if you even get a signature.
I belive the only print that i have where he signed the front of the print is the collab he did with Oker and he signed that with a twist sig in pencil.
all the other prints i have he has signed on the back as he has a pretty big and long signature, literally looks like he just puts down his legal signature.
sometimes he uses a stamp as a signature, it really varies, i think understanding that or knowing that helps make sense as to why there is a sticker on the back. i'm guessing the publisher and barry are anticipating selling alot of the standard print so the sticker makes perfect sense, considering he is going to be spending time hand finishing the other edition.
I think this is easily barry's best print to date, its a massive bummer that the standard edition is not fully screen printed but it makes sense to give the hand finished one more shine and appeal. I've been waiting for a print that looks like the original assemblage pieces that he has in his gallery shows for ages and this one is a home run and a steal with the gouache work, assuming all of these are getting some sort of face or dog on it. i've been after an small gouache painting for quite some time and i was last quoted 6k for a small 4x6 inch face by perrotin earlier this year, so getting that along with the print is a great value, although i'm not a fan of the spray paint being added but barry being the artist it is obviously his prerogative as to how he wants these presented.
the other thing i've learned collecting barry's prints is that there is almost no resell value on em for some reason. his print market is wonky so def buy for your walls and not for profit because i can't imagine these having a lot of resell value as you're getting them at the top of the market price, same goes for that underdogs print, great screen print and it has barry's longer signature on it, but that is already at the high end and i can't imagine there is much to be made on it. best of lucky to everyone buying and thanks to AA for a timed release to take away any stress and to make sure everyone gets one. look forward to seeing what everyone gets with the HF ones!

Personally I think the color palette, geometric shapes, and off-balanced composition are very representative of Barry's style. The AvanteArte one is also emblematic of his work in a different way with the unbalanced mixup of different components similar to this multimedia composite I currently have on the wall.
That said, I would guess you aren't a fan of his style(s) regardless of the piece? It's definitely not for everyone but for whatever reason it sucks me in.

Plenty of people are into mid-century modern design. This could fit into that aesthetic.
Personally, I like it. Barry rarely releases prints, much less signed (on front). His clusters are out of reach for me. This captures both his geometric design and caricature. For me, it is the better of the two new prints.
Iโll get it framed up and hopefully be as excited about it in situ.

Thank you for the insight very helpful. this is the signature on the Underdogs edition.
Interesting takes on this print and the underdogs print. I have quite a few Barry Mcgee prints in my collection and the signatures always vary, if you even get a signature.
I didn't experience the 1960s-1970s myself. Art is often about the impression, and sometimes, it's challenging to explain why an image resonates with us. In the case of Barry, I'm always stoked to see his unique and unusual work, which may not be everyone's cup of tea.
I'm not looking to buy his work for profit, instead, I simply enjoy it, as many others do. Understanding his background and all the history he made (for example,The spray caps he brought in transformed the Brazilian scene. He handed Kaws a key to open a bus stop...etc ) can add depth to our appreciation.
