Banksy Kate Moss Print, by almoran on Jan 14, 2008 19:42:19 GMT 1, Mose's post got me thinking and the more I think about it the more lobsided this deal would be. I have to agree, Parla's work is really amazing from concept to creation. I see him only growing as an artist and his influence will be felt for decades to come. I cannot bring myself to part with his work...

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by Cocteau 101 on Jan 14, 2008 23:45:21 GMT 1, I have often made the Pollock comparison - watch the documentary Love and Death On Long Island. To me the reaction to Parlas work is along similar lines - I honestly believe the piece I own (which some of you know) is a major work of art. That may seem exuberent etc etc but it is my honest opinion. I would sell every other piece of art I own if it meant keeping this one. I bought an original copy of Life magazine from 1949 - the one that first brought Pollock to the mass US market and it is an amazing read and one that I honestly believe could be applied to Parla in 2008. Only time will tell. I'd love a Kate and could kick myself at the pieces from way back when that I let slip by, the same as many on here, hindsight is a wonderful thing as is having the cash at the right time. I was fortunate with my Parla piece and in many ways it makes up for missing out on the likes of Kate not through lack of awareness but purely through lack of spare cash. Both major artists both will have iconic pieces.

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by mose on Jan 15, 2008 3:58:03 GMT 1, I am expecting a dive in Karma here as I know Parla is popular, I kinda like his stuff myself but come on...This must be the most overated artist at the moment ?
I can't agree with you on that, as I view Parla as not an important urban/street/whatever artist but as an ascending figure in the larger world of contemporary art.
The pieces you posted pictures of include a few of my favorites, such as Calle Luna and All Moi Love. To me, they are pure poetry, visual psychoanalysis, and are full of the element lacking in most of the art in the current 'scene' - emotion.
But, that is my personal opinion and I accept others may vary. I realize some artists, even ones I consider to be great, connect with only some of the people some of the time.

I must admit he is an artist I am not too familiar with, the old phrase 'Judging a book by the cover' comes to mind. But like I said there is 'something' that appeals to me...I will take some more time to familiarise myself with his work and try to look a bit deeper into the picture. +1

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by ABC on Jan 15, 2008 12:00:10 GMT 1, Why compare the two? they are both very credible artists and surely this is about personal choice. Lets face a few months back someone was trying to swap his CWSB for a Neate and there were no takers, I don't think it comes down to values IMO its all about if the image, if it captures you enough then Im sure you would to swap. Its a shame that everything talked about nowadays is the value and nothing to do with the artistic mertit itself.

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by slowmo on Jan 15, 2008 12:55:02 GMT 1, When the art in question is over £10K a piece, it's a little bit hopeful that you would not talk about relative investment value as £10K is an awful lot of money, think that it has to be considered unfortunately as the nature of the beast.
Unless of course £10K to you (not you ABC, the hypothetical you) is like £10 to others, then yes, artistic merit would be the sole purpose as its not a financial as well as emotional factor.

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by loucastel on Jan 15, 2008 15:09:56 GMT 1, Jose Parla, superb artist, his work in my humble opinion will evolve and get even better as he finds new depths within himself, as someone else has said already the resemblance between Parla and Pollack is quite striking, the press that pollack first recieved wasnt very flattering but he went from strength to strength. A kate for the right parla, as much as I love the kate image, there would be no contest. here is one of my favorite parla's

thats cocteau's, or at least it looks like his, i used to own a kate, & for sure, its a beautiful print, but after seeing the elms show, i would go for one of the parla's, the depth in some of the big pieces, were genuinely amazing, the kind of work you could look at for days & never tire of, full of energy & verve.

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by Cocteau 101 on Jan 15, 2008 16:00:29 GMT 1, To be honest Slowmo, I've always made the comparison to Pollock based on the fluidity of movement in the piece, I imo see a link. Also the pure emotional pull of the piece is similar to the feeling I get viewing Pollock - that's the main reason.

Honestly cannot see any relation between Pollock and Parla.

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by almoran on Jan 15, 2008 17:51:44 GMT 1, I think what Loucastel is saying is that from a compositional point of view there are some similarities. Parla's work is much more considered and well-thought out versus Pollock's random movements. I think you can argue how they each get from point A to point B. But I find it difficult to see how one can miss the comparison of the finished product. I think the differences in technique are what sets Parla apart. And I think these differences coupled with the end result is what will propel him to be considered one of the finest contemporary artists of our time as Pollock was/is considered in his.

Banksy Kate Moss Print, by almoran on Jan 15, 2008 18:09:26 GMT 1, IMO Rene Gagnon rocks this style much better when it comes to squiggle Tags and suspended/Pendulum paint trails.
No disrespect but I really cannot see how anyone could honestly say that Gagnon's work/style can even be mentioned in the same sentence as Parla. Looking at Gagnon's work it seems like he's still trying to find his way. It's a mashup of different styles that can be clearly tracked to other artists. Parla has long ago found his voice and his aesthetic continues to evolve while at the same time staying true to its origins.
Just my humble opinion.
