The Rat with Umbrella, did well considering its an ok image and in an edition of 25.
IMO there doesn't seem to be much let up in Banksy, the two Banksy canvases had fierce bidding compared to many of the lots. Especially the Keep It Real, I watched the auction and there seemed to quite the buzz around the Banksy pieces.
Some of the other artists didn't fair to well.
1st July Results: Keep It Real - £110,000 / £134,500 Rat With Umbrella - £55,000 / £68,500 Well those seem to be excellent results for the sellers. The Keep It Real was no surprise at £134k, oddly the same amount paid for the Flower Chucker yesterday at Phillips. The Rat with Umbrella, did well considering its an ok image and in an edition of 25. IMO there doesn't seem to be much let up in Banksy, the two Banksy canvases had fierce bidding compared to many of the lots. Hard to compare his demand or price trajectory with any other living artist as he really hasn't released anything publically in 5 years. |

Seems to a case of less is more.
He has the back catalogue and if someone want to buy a print they can on the secondary market, plenty of unsigned that are reasonable, i'm not saying they are cheap.
