Sunset by Dran $1500 , by gorkie on Feb 28, 2015 16:47:14 GMT 1, I would like to make one final thread here regarding the Sunset print by Dran.
My offer is $1500 (U.S.). I am not interested in paying more. I think this a pretty phenomenal return (3x) for what has been 2 weeks time.
If it makes you happier to put it up on ebay and see how much more you can get for it, I totally understand. Or you could make 3x now and make a true fan very happy. I will have to put money into the work for framing properly as well and so all things considered $1500 is my max plus shipping for this print.
I do also have some very generous trades I am willing to make as well if that is an option for you.
If this doesn't happen this time around, I am letting this one go for good. There is a lot I have witnessed regarding this print that, quite honestly, has really turned me off. And there is also quite a bit about how the show itself and how Dran and his people (not POW) have rolled that has really turned me off as well. As much as I love the guy's work I am really not liking the direction that he has taken with his life and the people he surrounds himself with. In my opinion, his prices are incredibly over-inflated. I understand it is supply and demand, but to me personally (a true fan of the work itself who is an educated collector all-around) I feel the market for Dran is in a ridiculously inflated bubble and I am getting really turned off by it all and my part of the "demand" side of the equation is very close to drying up for good and moving towards other artists who, quite honestly, I feel are priced correctly and whose work I love just as much if not more.

And, quite honestly, I think in a few months I am going to have an aversion to this print and will not even want to go back to it at all if it doesn't happen sooner with somebody who never really intended to hold on to it anyway.

Sunset by Dran $1500 , by Dexter Bulldog on Feb 28, 2015 17:40:29 GMT 1, i just scroll through "Active threads" so I got all excited for a second there thinking this was a for sale thread... oh well, kinda what gorkie said. but also its not like there hasnt been a lot of interest in dran to warrant some of these prices compared to some of the other artists out there. so it seems like if there is "demand" to push prices up it is because maybe a lot of other people feel how op does and love his work. the 35% increase in chalks overnight seems silly, so its simple to me, i just wont pay it. i like sunset but there were better pieces he could have gone with for this show.
side note- all the sunsets on ebay are the maroon/pink but the one they have on expresso beans is purple/green, was that a special variation or are they all different colors and everyone on ebay using the same image?

This interests me because I believe that, from the print options available at the time, Sunset was the strongest.
The idea seems to have been to sell a multiple of an image featured at the show. The release was on the morning of Saturday 21 February. Work on the print would have commenced, at the very latest, on Thursday 19 February or Friday 20 February.
Of the other Public Execution pieces that were complete on 19 February, which ones do you believe were better?

This is very different from the Banksy market, where the increase in price is mainly demand driven.
For Dran, given the much smaller fan base, I believe there would have been a much healthier market if not for the bargaining power acquired by few people over time. Very good investment strategy for them, but very bad for people willing to buy for the long term.
As a "chicago boy", I hate this, which is the quintessence of market manipulation.
