Banksy in Gaza β’ 2015 π΅πΈ, by SW20 on Feb 25, 2015 17:41:51 GMT 1, Very nice piece and must say do like the fact that the meaning is not obvious. Also have a feeling that like the girl with earring piece it's not meant to have a direct meaning to anything.

Banksy in Gaza β’ 2015 π΅πΈ, by Sweetcorn on Feb 25, 2015 17:44:34 GMT 1, Is this actually confirmed Banksy? Not really impressed, honestly; Just took a stock photo of a statue, turned it into a stencil, and sprayed it on a door in a decent fashion. Don't see much of an added meaning, etc. LOL. Americans.
Annoying aren't they.

Don't see the 'Banksy' charm. Pearl Earring at least had the composition element re: added meaning. Clearly I love Banksy, doesn't change that. Not feeling this piece much.

Pearl Earring at least had the composition element re: added meaning. Clearly I love Banksy, doesn't change that. Not feeling this piece much. Since Niobe is clearly embedded somehow in a stone wall, and if it is somewhere in Greece, Turkey than the placement could be the "composition element" you are looking for. For instance, if it is in Turkey, with their on and off flirting with joining the EU, on a dilapidated Greek church or something, it may make sense. We all know how successful Greece has been in the EU. (As a side note, in my many year in Istanbul, I never met a Turk who wants the EU.)
"According to Homerβs Iliad, she had six sons and six daughters and boasted of her progenitive superiority to the Titan Leto, who had only two children, the twin deities Apollo and Artemis. As punishment for her pride, Apollo killed all Niobeβs sons, and Artemis killed all her daughters." Then she was turned to stone.

This annoying American had to read all the classics in college; Iliad is thug life. I'd just be surprised if someone had to know the story of Niobe in order to understand the piece outside of aesthetic appeal and subjective observation; that does not seem like Banksy at all.

Banksy in Gaza β’ 2015 π΅πΈ, by Deleted on Feb 25, 2015 18:11:54 GMT 1, Who says that the artist wanted to make it easy to understand? Or understood at all? I know when I create my art, it is just for me (and my wife I guess). Perhaps this artist feels the same way. Difference is, I choose to keep my art on canvases in my home and don't share with many people, save family and one particular mentor/muse. This artist, let's say Banksy, chooses to put his art on the street. Know what I mean?

Could you please explain to me what 'does' or would seem like Banksy to you ?

'Clever' is usually the best way to describe what he does, in my opinion. I don't see that here.
Doesn't mean other people aren't allowed to like the piece. Don't see why me not liking it is such a big fuss, frankly.

Banksy in Gaza β’ 2015 π΅πΈ, by Lroy on Feb 25, 2015 20:14:47 GMT 1, Anyway, Jo Brooks retweeted some tweets from Animal about, so she did not denied. And banksy.co.uk is the official IG. What would you want more ? A stamp, a rubber stamp, a pass, a residence and a passport ... The only thing that intrigates me ( here there is specialists ) , is why, this reflection, and this glass effect. It is an amazing stencil if so.. Looks like a statue in a golden cage.
