Best Sandra Chevrier Image, by gilsteph on Jan 29, 2015 20:21:34 GMT 1, Quick question - what do you think Sandras best work to date is? I was doing some sorting and stopped to look at one I bought nearly 2 years ago.....and I think its still my favourite work by her but that got me thinking what else is out there. Maybe Im biased cos I see her everyday

I don't see a difference in any of her work. But that is just me. Other then looking at the comic book stuff she uses and deciding which comics she chose to use that you like the best, I do not see much to say what is better in her work. Also, seems tough to say how she will grow in the future work wise.
Starts off human faces/body parts and what is next? animals? cars? It will be interesting to see how she grows if at all in the future. That is whats great about art. What I think about certain artists is 100% different from others who collect them. I would buy a nice butt cheek with Ren and Stimpy comics slapped all over it in a heart beat depending on the price .

Best Sandra Chevrier Image, by thisisanton on Jan 29, 2015 20:50:35 GMT 1, In the past 2 years...they all look pretty similar just some on paper, canvas or wood. Would be nice to see her evolve, but I doubt we will see that and time soon. The comic book collage angle is working. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I own the canvas version of that piece. I believe she only used that model twice. And here they are! As for her style evolving... If I remember correctly it was a topic of conversation in another thread not so long ago. Her 'cages' weren't always 'comic book cages' or 'super hero cages' (or whatever you want to call them). She has been doing those for little over 2 years. Prior to that they didn't have comics collaged on them. There were brush strokes obstructing the women's faces. And prior to that her works involved a multitude of mish-mashed subjects, not strictly the human form. But portraiture was always part of it. Her work has evolved up to this. Where it will go from here only she knows. Who can blame her for getting it while the getting is good. Living off of your art is a tough gig, whether it be visual arts, music, film, etc.

Living off of your art is a tough gig, whether it be visual arts, music, film, etc. Prior to the comic book images, her work was basically identical to Marion Bolognesi's work, which had been around for a few years before she started doing it.
I was told that was coincidental and that she added the comic book element when people pointed it out.

Glad she's becoming swizz-ccessful, but I have a hard time comparing her to some of the other artists discussed on here.

Best Sandra Chevrier Image, by chichi carter on Jan 30, 2015 16:46:52 GMT 1, Here is an example of her work before the 'cages'. If memory serves me right the series this piece is part of is called 'dramas in colour'.

This thread has diverted from 'what's your favorite piece' to 'how has Sandra's work evolved' and I am partly to blame. Sorry about that. Let's get back to the original question shall we.

Best Sandra Chevrier Image, by randomname on Jan 30, 2015 17:49:21 GMT 1, I think it's fair to say her work is formulaic and predictable. But you can say that about quite a few successful artists. Once they hit on something that sells, it's hard to switch to something that might not.
