Bambi 🇬🇧 Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by met on Jun 21, 2021 14:13:12 GMT 1, This is so bad I can't believe people were predicting she'd be the next Banksy...
Just spotted this thread and decided to indulge in a session of rubbernecking.
__________
Your post caught my eye because I've never witnessed an informed person who genuinely predicted Bambi would be the next Banksy.
If you have a specific example in mind, I'd be interested to check it out, if only to see who made such a claim.
The closest thing I'm aware of was Bambi's representatives cynically resorting to marketing puffery — by always referring to her as "the female Banksy".
That catchy tagline was then often parroted by lazy, ignorant and/or dishonest journalists, online content creators, and resellers of Bambi artwork. In other words, by nobody whose assessment of the artist was ever worth taking seriously.

This is so moronic I don’t know where to star (does long COVID tells you anything idiot, but I guess it doesn’t since even means and medians largely escape you). My step mother died at 65 you mental midget, together with another 4 million people and counting. Buzz off please and go face your mortality elsewhere: as an exercise in applied Darwinism, and to improve the IQ of the species, please do stop seeking medical treatment for anything that might happen to you - thank you.

I met her once, she was genuinely nice and very sweet to my 8 year old daughter. My daughter still has the corgi Bambi made in front of her, framed & on her bedroom wall. I’m not saying it’s my favourite piece in our house, but it probably holds the fondest memories & my daughter wasn’t freaked out by being spoken to by a Disney character..

I think anytime anyone tries to justify how we have reacted to this they pull out some distant relative who died from Covid, whilst ignoring all the harm that is being done and resource that is being squandered. My Grandmother died from pneumonia in 2018 (another infectious disease), I don't recall me trying to guilt other people for it and requiring people to not live their lives. I have lost a very good friend to suicide last year whose life was completely torn apart, but no one seems to give two thoughts to the victims of lockdowns.

Do you not understand that even WITH a total lockdown nearly 128,000 people have died of Covid 19 in the UK? (over 150,000 if you count all who died with Covid on the death certificate, not just in 28 day) Can you imagine the numbers if we'd just carried on like it was pneumonia or flu !? We'd be like Brazil with half a million dead.
Suicide and other mental health factors are tragic, obviously... but pale in comparison to Covid deaths and long term illness.

Bambi 🇬🇧 Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by Coach on Jun 22, 2021 12:53:26 GMT 1, With respect to everyone commenting so far, I really do hope that this forum doesn’t get clogged up with arguments over whether Covid is real or not, exaggerated or not, and whether the vaccines are good or bad. Facebook is rife with this, and I’ve never seen anyone change another’s mind. Let’s leave those discussion on Facebook huh? All imho, of course.

Bambi 🇬🇧 Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by met on Jun 23, 2021 14:20:17 GMT 1, Just spotted this thread and decided to indulge in a session of rubbernecking. __________ Your post caught my eye because I've never witnessed an informed person who genuinely predicted Bambi would be the next Banksy. If you have a specific example in mind, I'd be interested to check it out, if only to see who made such a claim. The closest thing I'm aware of was Bam bi's representatives cynically resorting to marketing puffery — by always referring to her as "the female Banksy". That catchy tagline was then often parroted by lazy, ignorant and/or dishonest journalists, online content creators, and resellers of Bam bi artwork. In other words, by nobody whose assessment of the artist was ever worth taking seriously. She was unfortunately (for her own good) introduced with that moniker (the female Banksy) in a BBC service, and then that was repeated by the press (to her own detriment). I believe that that “title” did not help her much…
I'm always happy to be proven wrong. As a truth-seeker, the motivation is more about getting it right than being right.
Which BBC service in particular?
It's a point of interest to me, because the BBC is one of the platforms I had in my crosshairs when stating above that reference to "the female Banksy" was parroted by lazy, ignorant and/or dishonest journalists.
I myself don't believe the clickbait comparison to Banksy was coined by or originated with the BBC. Instead, like many others (including CNN, The Guardian and The Daily Mail), the BBC appears to have just allowed itself to be used — by echoing, uncritically and without fact-checking, a PR tagline it was fed. And in doing so, the corporation also contributed to a fake-news snowball effect: It further bolstered the perceived accuracy of coattail-riding guff that was originally conceived by Bambi's own representatives.
Even references that are more cautiously worded, such as "Dubbed 'the female Banksy'", are misleading half-truths at best.
The same applies for the list of purported Bambi-collecting celebrities that the likes of Walton Fine Arts and Lenny Villa (Bambi's ex-manager) would spout ad nauseum to whomever listened. There were blatant lies as well, like Villa's claims in 2013* that Bambi is an international pop star who's sold millions of records, or that her paintings were selling "for anything up to £100,000."
Everybody can be deceived. And quite often with great ease. When falsehoods are repeated enough times, especially by multiple sources, they start to become viewed as facts. Marketing 101.

Our opinions differ on the subject of how valuable "the female Banksy" has been to Bambi.
From what I've witnessed, that easily-memorable, forced association with a famous, talented artist — one who commands exceptional levels of media and public interest — has been terrifically successful for Bambi. This, in terms of press attention it has garnered, perception of artistic credibility (again, by association, at least in the eyes of novice or otherwise uninformed collectors), and the presumably increased number of primary and secondary-market sales resulting therefrom.
I would argue that "the female Banksy" has been a parasitic lifeline for Bambi.
She and her dealers have been dining on it for a good decade now. And seemingly without shame.
Just spotted this thread and decided to indulge in a session of rubbernecking. I believe that that “title” did not help her much… I'm always happy to be proven wrong. As a truth-seeker, the motivation is more about getting it right than being right. Which BBC service in particular? It's a point of interest to me, because the BBC is one of the platforms I had in my crosshairs when stating above that reference to "the female Banksy" was parroted by lazy, ignorant and/or dishonest journalists. ... since then she has fallen out with them ...
... as met commented, lazy journalism just then cut and pasted the 'bio' ...

Let me try to find the clip (I think it was even on here at some point). The BBC just repeating a PR line is well possible - the “lazy” journalist theory is not unlikely.
Honestly not sure about that moniker helping her tbh: 1) a hard benchmark to compare oneself; 2) de facto implies a lower degree of originality - otherwise Banksy would be the male Bambi (I can’t believe I’m writing this 😊); 3) makes gender a salient characteristic, and that normally does not help; 4) and, at least around Shoreditch, I’ve heard that only used as mockery.
But I see your point about the broader audience marketing value, and I think it has merit - albeit her market never really took off much (at least relative to what that comparison would imply). But obviously, in the absence of a counterfactual, it’s hard to assess the commercial effect of that label.
