Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by ruat caelum on Jul 30, 2008 18:21:29 GMT 1, I guess he is alluding to your taste developing and maturing, ie. you've probably seen enough work to have developed a spectrum and scale of what you like, don't like within the street art sphere and can thus make better judgements on what to buy and how the image might age. Like a fashion sense I guess, it takes to while to know what's out there and to develop your own personal style by learning from your mistakes etc. Just my take on it. Edit: I've only been 'collecting' for a few months and have definitley seen a change in what i've been interested in buying, eg. at the start I was a bit overcome by how much is out there and bought badly. As time has passed my choice and taste has developed, as it continues to do.
I couldn't have expressed it better myself.
The reference to two years was simply to indicate a certain knowledge base and maturity/experience in collecting. It is by no means a magic number; a level which takes some people two years to reach only takes others three months.

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by EYESAW on Jul 31, 2008 3:41:16 GMT 1, Omg i didn't realize this had been done before how stupid of me.. I must try harder..Come up with a original idea..
Maybe my idea of reworking of banksys classics is a shit idea not very original you know cos after all everyone's doing it aren't they...
and perhaps if i had my own style people would get the joke and my work would get recognized on the street..
I get your point don't buy my work.. go buy a banksy canvas instead
good luck

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by UpFest on Jul 31, 2008 8:07:37 GMT 1, Eyesaw... read through the comments of others, I really don't get that if someone doesn't have anything constructive to say, why say anything at all... Reworking of images has always been part and parcel of all forms of art, can I be brave and mention the mona lisa! For god sake if an artist gets at least one piece of positive feedback from someone who likes an image then hey it was worth doing...
Personally I prefer the B&W image of the kissing coppers you've done (or is that just in the photo?) I don't think the colour in this instance adds anything to it.... (but that's just my opinion...)
Keep up the good work....
:-)

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by LEVI C on Jul 31, 2008 8:59:56 GMT 1, damm harshly put by ruat i think, but i am going to have to give my opinion here. No doubt you're all aware that the reason for Banksys black/white simple level of detail is so he can do the pieces on the street in less than 20-30 mins. The point is, regardless of the simple techinque, his ideas/messages are so clever, hence why so popular on canvas even. I honestly feel that this stuff is piggy backing on his ideas AND not partucilarly skilled in techinque. No, lots of people aren't tweaking his ideas and "reworking his classics"......................because its too easy!! Ive been cutting stencils for a while now and other than integrating freehand (when you're not particularly good) the idea is the most difficult part. You may well call me a hypocrit (if you see my latest piece) but i'll only do one that has any connection to Banksy. You should have done the same thing. Your old lady with the street sign is brilliant! but any more and it just comes across as a blag!! i mean the kissing coppers really is a tiny tweak isnt it?

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by robinbanks on Jul 31, 2008 9:16:36 GMT 1, ^ Agree with the above. Once is funny, twice raises a smile, but thrice and it starts getting boring.
I said on another thread that, the next Banksy this kid (Eyesaw) aint. Snakes then quickly jumped to his defence saying, why would anyone want to be the next Banksy - why not just be yourself?
I'll echo those comments then. Be yourself Eyesaw, come up with your own ideas. If the only way you think you can get your 'voice' heard is by imitating someone else's then it leads me to think that possibly you don't have anything interesting of your own to say.
This is not a dig, just an opinion. Please prove me wrong.

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by baileymontana on Jul 31, 2008 10:56:01 GMT 1, Eyesaw I like your Granny one but Pimp's post is straight to the point (not unusual). I think all the people criticising you are saying that you need to be careful as an artist that you aren't seen as someone who only reworks Banksy images. Although put harshly above, I think you should take this on board or at least find some other artists to do a take on.

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by fool4faile on Jul 31, 2008 11:09:31 GMT 1, i was arguing with myself if i should respond here or not for a very long time, because on one hand i would really like to support eyesaw because i like his granny- image SO MUCH, i think it is a fresh and humorous take on the banksy- hype and not just a "rework" as most of the people here put it (the granny is totally uniquely made by eysaw and i think on a very high level of stencil- artistic skills!), but on the other hand this kissing coppers thing is really difficult...the banksy- original was very provocative with two men, but the same image and the way it is done, with two women, frankly is neither funny nor does it add something new, it is just pornographic .
sorry to say so, eyesaw, but i am sure you can do better than that and WILL DO SO SOON!
(rome wasn't built in a day).

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by snowflake8888 on Aug 1, 2008 15:01:51 GMT 1, Keep learning, keep thinking and keep painting what makes you happy. One day, you'll hit on something that gives someone else a laugh too. I'd quite like to cut my own kissing lesbians and spray it on my wall too (although they would definitely be wearing a lot less).
I feel that what makes a stencil artist different is his ability to make a witty statement in a picture. He does not have to show exceptional technique or skill (although that would be the icing on the cake), but he does have to show that he has a mind as sharp as his scalpel/X-Acto blade. For me, the reduction in time spent spraying means I must think about an image that is either very pretty or very clever, or I am no better than a tagger.
Anyway, I think Eyesaw has the right stuff so keep at it!

Eyesaw π¬π§ Street Art β’ Print Release , by colonelkurtz on Aug 1, 2008 17:59:42 GMT 1, I kinda think eyesaw is just ripping Banksy off. The kissing coppers was first done when the police were refusing entry into the force due to sexual orientation. It was a protest piece.. had depth of meaning and hits political strings. This rework is just pornagraphic and doesn't say anything to me. The ebay stuff was forum opinon based and amusing. However, there is nothing wrong with getting yourself out there and getting reaction to your work. Keep doing it, cause the granny was well executed and timed.
