The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by Deleted on Oct 11, 2014 10:58:14 GMT 1, I wonder if they'll be giving refunds, I love how the art saved them through its therapeutic nature and then goes on to state, "A couple of large canvases, similar to those sold at Bonhams and Christieโs, rested against a wall; Snelle and Golding donโt actually do the painting themselves; this is the task of a young man named Felix with a goatee beard, who was busy working on a computer upstairs."
What a very sad story.

The Connor Brothers ๐ฌ๐ง Mike Snelle & James Golding, by Gunny on Oct 11, 2014 12:38:01 GMT 1, There will be many on this forum who remember Mike Snelle and the Nick Walker releases and the queue for TMA Empire etc. It was crazy for a couple of years, Black Rat were making shed loads of bucks. I remember getting the emails from them, 'don't tell anyone' etc, in order to get the opportunity to buy something 'special' for sky high ยฃยฃยฃยฃ's, lol! ......... i bought, but luckily I also sold before Nick Walkers credibility took a dive (shame that as he is a good artist)! Mike Snell was/is quite a character!!
There is definatley a little 'inner' circle of people who wheel and deal in the art game in London, they are all good at making a quick buck or two and moving on. Mike Snell was/is successful as he has the connections and 'brain power' to succeed. It is all about trying something new, which seems like something Mike Snell is good at!
Although I particularly didn't like Mike Snell that much at the time (mainly because it was difficult to get the good stuff off him and had to buy some tat to get some 'opportunities') - you have got to admire his business sense in making a great success of Black Rat, his artistic brain in creating the Connor Brothers and his honesty in coming out with all the bipolar stuff. It has given me a sense of 'ah i was right, I knew he was a bit dodgy' but in the same sense I feel a lot of respect for what he has gone through and what he has achieved. I am sure there will be many that are a little disgruntled with what they paid for Walker and other stuff through Black Rat at the time, it was all very clever 'hyping' and it made the urban art scene exciting and was part of the growth! I am not too aware of James Golding's past dealings so I will refrain from commenting on this...........A great read, thanks for posting WIZ

urbanartassociation.com/thread/39153
He also owed a huge amount to artists like Judith Supine, Beejoir, Charities, Rostar, Eine, and the list goes on.

The man is a lying cretin who will do anything to make a quick buck out of someone, as you can see by his latest con.

Obviously not ok people if they were selling artwork and then before sending them selling them again. From what I have read in the past they were just con merchants. I don't know either of them but the article sort of sounds like they are trying to make people feel sorry for them.

The stunt was obviously made far easier as they are gallery owners and therefore their trusted clients bought into the hype that they themselves were presenting ....... seems to me more like con artists?

Ok, I wasn't aware of that. I can obviously see your point. I've bought a number of pieces and they've all turned up. Obviously if that had happened to me then I would have the same opinion.
I'd disagree it's a con. They made art and sold it under a pseudonym. Happens all the time whether that's artists or writers. The art is still real. Look at banksy is he a con. Apparently no one knows who he is - I know plenty of people who know who he is. It's in their best interests not to say to protect the value of their art work.

I don't know much about the history here, but from what I have read, I would totally agree. The piece is a we're sorry but our lives were f**ked up and that's why we did what we did.
Not cool. My Father was diagnosed Bi-Polar and dealt with it. He never used it as a crutch for the crazy evil things he did. He owned up to it and suffered the consequences. One of my best friends is a Heroin addict in recovery and also never used his addiction as a crutch, he is an artists, but I think only a handful of us know about his addiction, because he wants no one to be into his stuff because he is "so strong." He doesn't care for pity money.
These fools need to have the mic snatched from their hands, no one should be writing a story longer than this... They are and always have been frauds. They hired some kid to paint for them and then sold them under the pretense that it was created by two abused kids.
People like this should be burned at the stake if you ask me. Obviously using the "burned at the stake" as a metaphor.
