At what point do you sell your art?, by Coach on Mar 1, 2014 21:16:12 GMT 1, Things I really wished I'd never bought: VW Karmann Ghia Type lll E-Type Jaguar (Flat Floor) Ford Mustang Citroen SM Volvo P1800 And having just bought a Jensen Interceptor, I imagine I'll be adding that to the list in a month or two.
Impressive list. I had a Triumph Spitfire, brg, about 20 years ago. Then kids came along and I haven't had a fun car since. It was a convertible, but if you had the soft top on, the hard top roof had to be taken completely off. So it lived in the hall all summer. I do remember driving it through France, where it seemed most loved and admired.

At what point do you sell your art?, by Deleted on Mar 1, 2014 22:18:21 GMT 1, Here in Holland you only live once, sell some Banksy... buy this car and enjoy your life! You should come and live in England because you can live more than once, so if you fuck it up then it doesn't matter because you can have another crack at it when you die. Or at least I think that's what the bloke at St Peter's really means.
Sell the art, buy the car. Drive it and have a blast, since when did looking at a folio get your juices running?

You guys from both sides of the globe get to drive some seriously nice cars, down here we are a land of Toyota Corolla,s Hyundai i30,s and Holden utes if you drive around in a 3yr old Audi A4 people will think you are very well off and if you had something like a Triumph spitfire or a E type you would be fighting the girls & guys off with a stick every day and probably end up on the TV.

At what point do you sell your art?, by anodyne13 on Mar 2, 2014 4:12:51 GMT 1, There are exceptions, but I think that generally speaking if the value of your art eventually exceeds its place in your overall financial picture, then at least some of it will get sold eventually.
I think this particularly true if you have a family as well, its hard to justify a luxury item such as art if there are bills to pay, tuition for the kids, a long put off vacation for the wife, or a car or any other itch that can not be scratched from your day to day finances.
I think the key is to understand why you are making the decision, so you do not have any regrets later on. The art may go up in value more than whatever it is you sold it for, but its not like you are pawning your wife's wedding ring or the family heirloom.

You remind me of my brother in law. When I first met him 10 years ago he was driving an Alfa Romeo 155 which he then sold to get a MG convertible. Then he married my sister and 10 years and 3 kids down the line he's driving a Volvo estate and the only extras in the car are a baby seat and plastic dinosaurs on the floor !!
