At what point do you sell your art?, by v on Feb 28, 2014 16:07:28 GMT 1, I dream of having that dilemma one day. My 2 cents, sell the prints you don't like, hang the rest and rock out in the new ride. Life's short, enjoy the small pleasures like driving a dream car.

At what point do you sell your art?, by china man on Feb 28, 2014 16:09:24 GMT 1, Not sure where to put this, so its in sales thread.
I have a bunch of Banksy* that have never been framed and probably not going to be as there is too much other stuff on the walls - not stupidly rare , but legit banksy anyway
lets say they are worth XXX ish
I have my eye on a classic car that is worth say just under XXX - I really want that car as I gave away my old wreck a few months ago and am missing having my own i.e. not the family wheels
What would you do ?
Seem a no brainer to me- stuff In a folder = car of my ( limited dreams) - I can get more pleasure out of the cat than I could out of a folder of art..
has anyone else had to work through this kind of quandary/ dilemma ?
I've bought a signed applause which is now framed by MFM and on my wall and I love it! But I have always thought if the price hits 8 to 10k I might sell it and take the family to Florida, at the end of the day it's what makes you happy and you should never look back with regrets. Good luck with your choice and it really is up to you at the end of the day, it's your art!

Oh must be just me then.

My dream is to one day have a lovely E-type jag. It will always just be a dream though. For me, it remains the most beautiful car ever made.

At what point do you sell your art?, by easycraig on Feb 28, 2014 18:12:48 GMT 1, this is a pretty interesting thread.... i have a couple vintage cars... ( love em, but they really are a drain and right now... neither are running -and when they are... they are always breaking down...) i moved all my prints for the most part several years ago... i try to have everything up on the wall now.... (with a few rotations) i can say the following... i sold much of my stuff to help pay for my backyard remodel and it was the best thing i ever did.... we spend so much time out there and not only do i enjoy it, but our friends and family do also when they are over. Just yesterday while sitting in the hot tub..... i was thinking it was the best 4k i ever spent... (much better then a print on the wall) - just my opinion... ec

E type old school is the greatest car ever made. Am looking for one for the missus at the moment as its her favorite car. Not cheap and fucking difficult to find in good nic.

At what point do you sell your art?, by Deleted on Feb 28, 2014 19:30:42 GMT 1, I had to sell my LV child canvas as the Mrs wanted a new kitchen. In fairness we needed one.
I have regretted it ever since.
What a nice problem to have though. I now give anything I buy to my kids and that way I don't have the option to sell. I wish I had an art collection when I was that age. I expect when I turned 17 though I'd have sold for a car LOL.

So the nice lady from hmrc told me when I asked anyway...

some good points here- I am taking them on board.
its sort of interesting that colleting stuff for the lolz back in the day takes on a much heavier significance when you can actually realise the cash and spunk it on other stuff for the lolz.

At what point do you sell your art?, by Manty on Feb 28, 2014 23:35:56 GMT 1, You wouldn't be spunking the cash, you'd be getting a hobby, doing stuff, going on nice journeys, maybe join a club with like minded car anoraks, or maybe not?
Could be a great obsession, my mate was gutted he got outbid on a 'new' original centre console (bit of hardboard with plastic leather on top) it went for £300 :-) cost new around a tenner, it was for a Mk2 escort, he has spent around £20k on it, but would get it back and he has had a laugh with pals doing it up
Arts dull really, compared to doing stuff
sell the shit dude, and get the car
You really should get a car you can use on the track though, thats fun :-)

At what point do you sell your art?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Mar 1, 2014 11:58:13 GMT 1, You must have cash in the bank also as your misses would have said sell those prints to buy new kitchen, new bathroom etc... Buy the car, life's too short mate you just don't know what's around the corner, don't know what's going on recently just hearing people I know not with us anymore, lots getting the big C, youngsters also.. Just puts everything in perspective. Enjoy life, family, friends, holidays and pleasures like cars...!!! So just buy the car and have fun, have no regrets. I only want a new lotus ellise (always wanted one) they don't cost the earth. In the UK they are cheap, here in oz too much. I looked at shipping one over but get stung on tax, so have to make do with my 10yr old Honda
Also if you can keep one signed and get in on the wall, they seem to go up in value every year, then you can sell that one to pay for a new engine when it seizes up

At what point do you sell your art?, by daveart on Mar 1, 2014 14:33:21 GMT 1, i wouldnt by the Merc unless you are capable of working on it yourself.. you can quickly surpass the value of the car in repairs over a few years and that drives the enjoyment level pretty low. That said.. I am not one to listen to as i never follow my own advice...
Definitely get the car that makes you look forward to weekends. look forward to joining the local enthusiast club. look forward to getting out on a sunny sunday morning and blasting down a highway.. if you got in early those scraps of paper became valuable .. and you basically won the lotto.. now go enjoy it! point is if you actually had a lotto ticket you wouldnt frame it .. you would go cash that f'er in and roll around in the pile of loot..

I see you back in a 911 then .. not a merc sedan. cool as it is .. oh yah if you do your own work those spark plugs and wires are a major pain in the a$$. takes two evenings of removing parts to get the plugs out. i am working on a '98 currently and oh lucky twin plug.. twice the fun.
