Kissing Coppers Street Piece Sold, by Prescription Art on Feb 19, 2014 15:48:29 GMT 1,
I don't understand this... the original piece was damaged a couple of times, and then repainted.
This piece that's been repainted is still in situ on the pub, and looking much like this:
bit.ly/1jbUVxq
I don't get what it is they've sold, or how or when it was removed from the pub without anyone noticing.
Even if they somehow removed the original piece of wall, it would have been repainted to such a degree that I would just consider it a replica of the original piece.
It's all very odd.

Kissing Coppers Street Piece Sold, by Jimmy Oscar on Feb 19, 2014 15:55:42 GMT 1, I was told it was sold by the pub owner who needed the cash and was fed up having to keep touching the piece up due to damage.
I was driving through Southampton (a town in the Hamptons for those who don't know) last summer and I went into the gallery to see it - absolutely incredible in person.
Views on removing street pieces aside - it looked incredible hung on the wall.
Weighed in around 600 lbs so you'd need a hell of a hook too.

Kissing Coppers Street Piece Sold, by Carrie on Feb 19, 2014 15:56:47 GMT 1, I'm wondering whether it is a different piece to the Brighton one. It says it is spray paint and emulsion on aluminium and that it is framed.

The original piece was certainly not on aluminium, it was on the wall of a pub.
As far as I know there were only ever two 'Kissing Coppers' painted outside - one in Brighton & one in Ladbroke Grove.
All reports suggest that this piece was taken from the Prince Albert pub: www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2014/feb/19/banksy-mural-kissing-coppers-sells-us
However there is no sign on the pub wall that anything has been removed.
And as far as I know, no-one saw a large section of the pub wall being taken out, and no-one saw it being replaced with a replica. It's also hard to see how that particular section of wall that was sold was taken from behind the lamppost.
I might pass by tomorrow and see if it's in any way feasible that the piece could have been taken from the pub wall.
My feeling is that it's a very expensive fake.
In a lot of the photos on flickr dating from 2005 / 2006 there is a significant crack in the wall right across the middle of the piece. I would be interested to know if that matched up to this auction piece....

Despite all the restorations and "transfer [of] the image onto a canvas" (and then aluminium?) they still consider that as the original. I don't.
