I believe the whole idea was for the sign to disappear to be the lasting piece of the mural, that piece will never be cut out as it's worthless now.


Banksy knew and purposely used that sign to get removed, as you've stated the picture is already on the Internet so what's done is done, I'm sure somebody will try and paint replacement or some other funny addition but that is the street and the more they get dfaced and the quicker they get stolen the more the media and networking sites go crazy

I read something like 700,000 people been sent home without pay till solved more to come if not solved quickly. Not sure how many in New York but one assumes a proportional amount. 

Some of his pieces could coincide or even inspire some civil protests as pretty sure people in the US gonna be pretty pissed by the Govt close down especially in New York

Interesting set of events. Good to see new work in the streets. I would think that a destroyed work like others stated was maybe not planned but a lesser of evils when considered it could have gone the other routes sold, boxed up in glass and so forth. Whoever took the sign either way has a nice piece of history regardless and I am sure it will still be worth something. With more works to come I am sure there will be more losses and damages and all of the above.

Agree with most of what you say BR.
Delighted this is just about street work, and especially that the forum won't be filled with gripes about not scoring a print (no doubt including me own gripes!).
I have no problem with the street pieces being damaged. It is much better, in my opinion, than the wall being cut out and sold or the piece being covered in Perspex. Street art is transient, and a wall should evolve, I think.
That said, I can completely understand people being upset that the piece was damaged so quickly, especially as many people will have wanted to visit it, but had not yet had the chance. They can of course still do so, but I understand they may have wanted to see the piece in better condition.
But that's the nature of street art.
I also think that there is still exciting non banksy street art out there, which still excites me, but that's something we have talked about before, badrobot.
Excited to see the next instalment.
