Banksy coloured soupcan edn of 10 signed for sale., by simonf on Sept 6, 2013 20:36:44 GMT 1, I have a couple of coloured soup cans, signed with full pest control mint condition, kept flat acid free sleeves
Breaks my heart to sell them, but I am raising money for a house.
I am probably going to sell them through a gallery but thought I might mention it here.
I believe I have an idea what they are worth.
Cheers!

So interested parties have the opportunity to purchase at discount as the vendor will sell sans gallery mark up.

Banksy coloured soupcan edn of 10 signed for sale., by simonf on Sept 6, 2013 21:54:31 GMT 1, Basically I am trying to sell them. I have two I may only put one with the gallery. I'm going to have a chat with them tomorrow and see how things transpire. I have no firm agreements with anyone at the moment so I thought I would offer at least one here - pick a colour purple or yellow

Banksy coloured soupcan edn of 10 signed for sale., by Ruggs on Sept 6, 2013 22:06:17 GMT 1, Can't believe people are not all over these like they are with Nola and CYW. They're all great colourways, neat sizes and tiny editions of just 10. I'd love one of these one day, even an unsigned original colourway edition of 250 would be nice.

Out of interest please explain why you made such a blunt comment?! He can sell it however he wants. His choice whether he wants to do mates rates or sell for top dollar, doesn't mean he will, otherwise everyone would do that's. I too wish all these prints were affordable.

Banksy coloured soupcan edn of 10 signed for sale., by met on Sept 7, 2013 4:15:14 GMT 1, Can't believe people are not all over these like they are with Nola and CYW. They're all great colourways, neat sizes and tiny editions of just 10. I'd love one of these one day, even an unsigned original colourway edition of 250 would be nice. Banksy's soup cans (like the petrol bomb image) were based on the Tesco Value brand, which Tesco announced would be discontinued in April last year. It was replaced by Tesco Everyday Value, a range having completely different packaging.
With that 2012 relaunch, the Banksy works ceased to be current and topical โ at least in design terms โ and instead became historical.
For some collectors, this might make the art less interesting, given it was intended as a 21st century / contemporary take (whether that be a piss-take, a homage, or both) on Warhol's Campbell's soup cans. Of course others may be indifferent to the change at Tesco, or even feel it makes the art more desirable.

Hopefully the seller, simonf, will forgive my indulgence of following up on this topic with ruggs.
First, in the interest of full disclosure, I don't own any Banksy Soup Can or Soup Cans canvas, screenprint or poster, and I don't have a particular desire to own one, which leaves me pretty much unconcerned about the current or future prices of these works.
Second, no offence taken to the your comment. What's unclear but of genuine interest to me is whether your issue is with a specific point that was made, or my post in its entirety. I'll leave aside the factual statements, assuming they aren't in dispute. Of the views expressed, my impression is the main one you disagree with (despite the careful qualifiers) is, "For some collectors, this might make the art less interesting".
Would this be the assertion that forms the bulk of the load of cock?

I don't think that the change of branding by the supermarket will make this print any less interesting or desirable. It remains a great image imo. It's difficult to back this up with any facts or figures. It's an opinion. But I guess the obvious comparison would be with warhols Campbells soup can. I have no idea whether Campbell's have rebranded, but if they have it's made no difference to the desirability of warhols can, and if they haven't, but do at some point in the future, again I very much doubt it would make warhols image any less desirable. I do not own either btw.

It's worth mentioning that whether the image remains great is a separate issue which wasn't touched upon by me.
We're in complete agreement about this being difficult to back up with any facts or figures. For this reason, my original comment was expressed as simply a possibility rather than a certitude, and such possibility was restricted in scope to just some collectors. Other collectors who may be indifferent or take the opposite view were also referred to.
So the statement was by no means a sweeping one. It seemed fair to me, hence my desire to understand which part ruggs disagreed with.
The Warhol Campbell's soup cans comparison is a good one, and our positions are identical about the Warhols being equally desirable to ourselves regardless of any rebranding. It's probably safe to speculate the same goes for the vast majority of actual Warhol collectors. That said, we aren't in a position to categorically say it applies to every single one of them.
For the sake of argument, let's assume rebranding by Campbell's had zero impact on collector interest in Warhol soup can paintings and prints โ iconographic images based on an original concept conceived half a century ago by a long-deceased artist. I'm not certain rebranding by Tesco necessarily also resulted in zero impact on collector interest in Banksy Soup Cans. The situations can be distinguished by the fact the latter works are derivatives (knowing nods or tributes to, and/or spoofs of, the Warhols) and created by a still-active contemporary artist. Among those who believe Banksy's artistic intent was to produce a humorous, distinctly British, and 21st-century version on the Warhol imagery, some may feel a little saddened about the update no longer being fully up-to-date.
This point might be more convincing if made another way, using the following fictitious scenario:
Say it's 2005 and I've just purchased the Banksy Soup Can canvas in Westbourne Grove or one of the Soup Can screenprints at Pictures on Walls, giving me a vested interest. For many years that follow, each time I spot Tesco Value soup cans at Tesco, they're a pleasant and amusing reminder of what I have at home, a piece that brings me great joy. Conversely, the artwork feels even more contemporary, more relevant, and more interesting to me by the very fact it directly references part of my quotidian life, i.e. what I always see while out grocery shopping.
Now let's say it's 2011 and Tesco is considering a possible change, either to (i) leave the Tesco Value range exactly the same, or (ii) rebrand with the new name Everyday Value and a new packaging design.
From my perspective as a Soup Can collector, these two options would not leave me indifferent. If offered the choice, for reasons including those mentioned above, I'd rather Tesco Value remain unchanged.
Query whether such a personal preference would also be a load of cock.
