Micallef LA Prints, by morrissey1 on Nov 11, 2007 20:26:00 GMT 1, I've seen that Peacekeeper went on the bay for ยฃ800 and Improvised Minotaur went for ยฃ820. Is Micallef having a temporary dip or is he busted! Less importantly, is Laz laughing after trousering all that cash?
you could say those prints were almost cursed from the get-go. Laz previewed the images on Lazinc and most people were not overwhelmed by them, to say the least. Then, even though a lot of people on this forum and in other forums expressed that they weren't into them that much, still, the "flippers" got their wallets ready and then came the craziness (from what I've heard/read). The line up at Lazinc, the family/families buying up sets, the celebrities in LA, everyone was still waiting for the next Banksy release, the images were just old ideas re-hashed, then about 2/3s of the prints end up on ebay, and voila: a dip in the going rate of those prints, but not in AM's reputation or artistic value.....IMO. His other work still sells well on the secondary market, and his future work definitely will be better received.

Micallef LA Prints, by manchestermike on Nov 11, 2007 20:28:06 GMT 1, Not busted at all... far too many prints released by Laz was always going to have a knock on effect... added to the time of the year means low prices. FWIW I think the Laz prints (the runs of 400) were overpriced, and they'll reflect that for a while. I think the POW / Eyestorm / LAZ 50 edition prints value will see a rise again in the new year.

New seller but a forum member. You are right they were good prices. I fully expect the ones at Bloomsbury to meet their estimate, if not do a bit more...

Don't suppose Laz gives a toss, though hopefully it makes people think before splashing over 1k on what's a massive edition size for a print. These were never gonna hold their value. Just way too many of them available.

Put it this way... for the same price as the set of 4 you could have had one of the 50 edition prints...
No contest

Micallef LA Prints, by veralynn on Nov 11, 2007 20:40:07 GMT 1, I've never actually been a massive fan of Anthony but I do like HFUNG and also my walk and his earlier stuff from POW to some extent. I think that the reason that the Laz stuff has 'dipped' is that it was never in 'the right hands' to start with and the product lacked strength, desirability and to some extent 'freshness'. The talent will out, it always does.

A well made point. Micallef is a talented artist and his appeal will continue to grow steadily over the years. Once he's found his final market I believe his eyestorm period prints will be sought after and probably the 50 editions and PoW work too. So in short, I don't think anyone should be looking to make a quick buck out of AM, but instead get it up on your walls until you can no longer afford to justify its possesion.

Micallef LA Prints, by farmergeddon on Nov 11, 2007 21:22:25 GMT 1, Not really sure it's wise to agree with everything the dealer suggests when it comes to edition sizes. Laz must of known this could be detrimental to an artists collectorbility right?

Micallef LA Prints, by patrese on Nov 11, 2007 22:49:56 GMT 1, the images are very uncaptivating, hence the lack of interest. So many ended up in the hands of flippers who rely on there being enough others willing to pay to buy them, even at cost, the images are simply not desirable enought to attract them.
