Paul Insect as investment?, by Bbb on Nov 6, 2007 21:40:57 GMT 1, Hi,
I like some of his art (I've got LOVE and PEACE framed), but not to sure on other stuff. Either way I was thinking to buy as an investment, is Insect's work likely to become more valuable. I know the guys had quite a bit of public exposure, but is it worth buying prints I'm not too keen on to keep for the future?
Cheers

Paul Insect as investment?, by Bbb on Nov 6, 2007 21:51:48 GMT 1, you could have easily have said that about banksy 3-4 years ago. I only bought LOVE and PEACE because I think they are good pieces. Definately wary about buying art i'm not keen on. I'll be cautious with this one.
What artists (whose art is currently affordable) could make good future investments in prints? I start uni next year and thought that if I buy some decent stuff now I can unload it when I need the cash.

Paul Insect as investment?, by ricosg11 on Nov 6, 2007 23:50:02 GMT 1, Your not going to get many serious answers here, but ill lend my opinion. You came here asking a question like what will the lottery #'s be next week. The truth is nobody knows. Insect has some great stuff and some avg stuff. Ill admit im not his biggest fan. If your looking to make money in art do some research, watch who is hot when, and follow sales, otherwise hire an advisor to do it for you. Its also becomes very difficult to make money when you really like everything you have and you run out of "pieces im willing to sell." All in all, it comes down to a lot of reading, a little luck, and good taste ( or at least taste to the lowest common denominator). Just be discerning when you buy things. Ask youself a few questions before enetering your credit card #. Will I be able to get my money back on this, or more, if something should come up? Will I like this is 10, 20 years? Who represents this artist? Who is collecting this artist? Why are people collecting this artist?
Good luck with school. I wish I was into art while I was in college.

Paul Insect as investment?, by andrewd on Nov 7, 2007 0:00:59 GMT 1, Why not buy a copy of Adam Lindeman's 'Collecting Contemporary' published by Taschen @ Β£16, cheaper than any Insect print! There's lots in there about all aspects of art. There are lots of tips about how to start collecting and whilst it is obviously aimed at the the wanna be collector with a bit of cash the same old rules emerge time and time again in the interviews with the gallerists.

Paul Insect as investment?, by dave313perry on Nov 7, 2007 0:03:53 GMT 1, Iv just realised Iv become one of those smug forum members that snide at unkowledgable newbies! what a tosser!
Il put you out of your misery! Hutch is not a good investment, i think i can safely say that! its abit of a forum joke thing that keeps popping up! - just ignore that!
I wont judge your motives for buying and selling art but it really comes down to research and getting yourself involved - and 'you will' become an art addict as you go along!
There are very knowledgable members on here who will help you aslong as you join in and give opinions and kinda contribute what you can!
my advice would be listen to the suggestions that people make as investment - but even more importantly listen to the reasons why, why is the art so good, what makes it stand out, what makes it so desirable and before you kow it you will have your own specific tastes that you will steer to and will be able to tell a shite piece from a masterpiece at a glance!!!! until then i would avoid jumping on the hype bandwagions that come and go and buy what appeals to you, dont spend more than you can afford to lose. hope that all makes sense im rambling again
best of luck with finding the art that does it for you - and hopefully it will be worth a pretty penny!
