Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by Cardiff on May 9, 2013 16:27:14 GMT 1, While I'm sensitive to those that are significantly upside down with Neate, I'm thrilled that some of his better work is at more attainable prices. I think he's one of the most interesting and talented artists in any scene and is definitely high on my list of WTBs. Speaking as a self-centered American, I can't believe that it can be a sustainable representation strategy to not show his work in the USA. I seriously hope Elm's/Adam rethinks their strategy on that front...it drives me insane that I have to fly to the other side of the world to see his work in person.

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by ArtmanLA on May 9, 2013 18:38:17 GMT 1, That is a big price drop but it's not totally out of kilter with what has happened the last few years with many other artists. I love Neate's work but it's fair to say at £30K it sold for far too much and for £3K sold for far too less.
Adam is very prolific and has lots of work out there with collectors, I think prices will need to be adjusted if he continues to exhibit in the 'regular' places which is why his move to exhibit in Beijing is a pretty shrewd move in my opinion. I've spent a lot of time in China and the art scene is very exciting and what with China's economic boom, many people have a lot of disposable income and art is one of the things they like to buy. I can see his sales going well there and for prices that he was getting in the UK a few years ago.
With regard to Elms, that's a tough one, I think they did a very good job of nurturing his talent and certainly helped him get the status he has, time to move on? maybe, but he needs to choose the right dealer and that is not easy.

Interesting to know how easy it is for western contemporary artists such as Neate, who I imagine is relatively unknown to the Chinese market to break into it. Isn't the Chinese market still dominated by their homegrown artists?

Most of that domination is due to the lack of Western artists exhibiting there, it's still early days but the market is strong.

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by RolexDave on May 9, 2013 19:26:57 GMT 1, I wonder any other artist whose work sold for £40K and beyond, (I know a few collectors who bought Neate at that price) whose canvas works now sells at auctions for £3K in these last 5 years?
He cant go to sell in the States at the astonishingly high primary prices Elms still charges like its 2007.

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by Shoeless on May 10, 2013 7:51:38 GMT 1, I would like to see Mr. Neate change things up a bit in regards to how he is being managed. I wasn't aware of Neate until after his rise and fall in popularity around here. When I first discovered his work, I was absolutely amazed that he was getting more attention. Looking through past sales and threads discussing his work, it is apparent he was appreciated. Uncertain why his work doesn't get the same amount of attention today...can only think it has to do with management.
I'm happy to have an early canvas of his! Considered selling a couple months ago only to fund a Graffiti World box, but the seller and I couldn't reach agreement. Would love to add a larger piece to my collection....hopefully can come across a steal like this!

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by johnnyh on Jun 23, 2013 10:55:48 GMT 1, Not sure of the point of this thread but anyway not sure also I understand the knocking of Elms.
adam works and produces they sell and market. He earns they earn more importantly they all have a great relationship. Or should he chase round the world chasing galleries and shows instead of doing his art.
he has Elms to do this and they take great stands just for him in all the major Asian shows they have their gallery in London for domestic shows they just do not chase the US market but also that has been down in recent times so maybe that will change.
it also reduces the flipping market as you can buy from Elms who sell his work at a decent price. Why buy from an inflated priced piece when you can buy from them. Love my pieces by him On my wawalls see pic below of Singapore art fair stand probably best looking in show every other stand was white

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by RolexDave on Jun 23, 2013 11:03:57 GMT 1, The point of the thread is obvious aint it?
How his Primary Gallerist sells his art for £30/40K and his auction prices have fallen of the cliff without any support from the gallerist.
Please let me know where you can buy his inflated price work elsewhere because when you look, you'll only come back to one place and everyone knows where that is!

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by RolexDave on Jun 23, 2013 11:24:40 GMT 1, The point is you obviously do not know what your talking about as they sell edition, small canvases, medium and larger ones. Only the biggest are in the range you quote so again why pay an inflated auction price when you can buy from them. You think he would be cheaper if other galleries were selling? the auction price is snot high as you can buy from Elms Why pay an inflated auction price when you can buy from Elms? I think thats my point. You can buy at auction for £3K instead of £40K + at Elms. No other galleries would touch him, though you still have not said where they are selling for more.

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by johnnyh on Jun 23, 2013 11:35:07 GMT 1, Yes all well and good but your wrong on the pricing. Listed by Dreweats 6- 8 K. I bought a much better small canvas by him for 8k off Elms in Singapore and a larger red one for 15k.
So the price the cardboard. Piece got at auction is probably about right. The pieces supplied to auction and the prices set at auction are not set by Elms.
So as you can see the price you are quoting for Elms is wrong. No idea where you got 40k from but it is just not correct.
So check your facts before posting

The Green Turquoise on cardboard was bought from Elms for a considerable amount at Elms than it sold at Dreweatts. FACT!
So you bought two pieces at £23K might represent a bargain to you but it bears no reality to his marketplace in the wider world.
Hype him all you want, and look at past threads, he's been hyped before, but putting 8 pictures in a Singapore Art Fair that didnt sell in the UK two months before aint fooling me and aint fooling anyone else but you.

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by Sundowner on Jun 23, 2013 12:33:07 GMT 1, Interesting thread developing here and I sense a certain amount of frustration being vented by those who may have seen their (probably not insignificant) investment in Neate reduce over the last 5 years.
Neate is one of the few UK street artists that has successfully moved into the contemporary art space and as a result of Elms alleged "mis-management" he now has a significant base of wealthy global collectors, who are responsible in part for fuelling the prices set by the gallery. If Elms have enough new work to satisfy the market, then why should they feel obliged to take his secondary market work on to their books, or be criticised for not doing so? To me, he is still one of the most talented artists of our generation, constantly evolving his style and developing his craft and I am sure that in 10 years time he will be truly recognised as one of the great contemporary artists of our time and his prices will have risen considerably as a result.
My final point (as has been said numerous times before) is only buy the art you like and pay what you think a piece is worth - if it ends-up appreciating in value then that is a bonus.

I am not hyping anyone just commenting on your daft thread and highlighting that the figures you are quoting are massively wrong. No need or desire to hype price as I do not sell art.
Likewise your comment on the Sing show is also wrong as 60 - 70 % was brand new work Again that is FACT as I was at both and also the pic supports this fact

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by Winter on Jun 23, 2013 12:59:42 GMT 1, I do feel that the way he launched his career leaving pieces on the street was great. He then had some decent shows and his work was (and is) great quality and better than many other bigger named artist (IMO). I'm not convinced staying with Elms has helped him to progress his career although he is still young and has a massive future ahead. Not sure who is driving the Asian market thing but I think he should be pushing on from here even if that means getting new representation.

He is more concerned with his work. He makes it they Sell it and iit works for him. His concept as an artist seems much more longer term

Adam Neate massive drop in price!, by Dice on Jun 23, 2013 23:17:51 GMT 1, Sorry but I really don't understand this bashing of Adam neate and elms.
The turquoise portraits on cardboard were not particularly strong pieces. A few different ones have cropped up at auction (mainly dreweatts) and have done badly.
Does that mean all his work is massively overvalued? No way. Does it mean his career is a joke and he should quit elms? No way.
Adam (and I have personally chatted to him a few times about this) is very happy with elms and being able to focus on his art and relax in the relationship he has built up with them over the years. Judging by the quality of the pieces I'd say its working well.
One day a quality, classic red portrait will come up at auction and that will be a better marker. In the meantime collectors will collect based on belief in the artist rather than a couple of poor results from a pretty rubbish auction house.
