I thought about trying to frame my float mount my art. I did all the research, even go as far as mixing and making the paste to use with japanese hinges. Got scared at the last moment and decided to let the pro's do it. I would always stick with the tried and tested methods, japanese hinges and paste. May leave a small mark in areas on the back of the print but at least it is generally accepted it has been done properly.

At the expense of being a complete and utter train-spotter...has anybody every mounted their prints with their own version of "photo-corners"...in other words stuff that doesn't even touch the actual print itself?

You mean like hovering inside the frame nacional?.

I posted about this in another thread, Zest-it reversal fluid. Tried it recently on a damaged print that also had two pieces of tape on the edges in board by around 5mm. Checked it the other day and as the product described left no trace. Looked awful when first applying but seems fine now.
Just had a look for the bottle but cant find it. takes a while to work it in.

i think what Wizz is trying to say is you need to stick the corners to the backing which then means you do not have a float mounted print(i think he might be taking the mick).

Well not really.
If you weren't after a float mount, I would think the photo corners would be ok. As you say, there would be no adhesive of any kind touching the print.
Depending on the size and density of the paper however there would be some issue with the paper rippling/sagging possibly on a large print

I think over the pond Mylar corners/holders in plain view seem to pretty popular.I've even seen them in framed pieces in Uk galleries from overseas artists

Edit: Have a bunch of smaller Seen & Dondi pieces I will play around and 'float' with just mylar corners and see if I can live with that look

Just wondering if float mounting works well with a black background?

Most examples I see are with white background - i assume to make the shadow standout.

Does it still work well/look good on a black background? Anyone got any examples?

There's a nice Banksy Trolley Hunters on here somewhere floated on a black background with a white mount surrounding everything. Looks great and if I manage to afford one that's how I'd frame it.

I have just got into black backgrounds and black mounts after doing a couple shep fairey prints like this- depending on the print it works really well!

I think the right pieces can look great floated on a black background. Mfm did two for me like this a while ago.

Thanks for the compliment dude. Just about getting the hang of this framing lark now and quite enjoying it now I understand a little more about conservation framing.

The Eine looks amazing and is a grail print of mine... one day she will be mine.

I have a picture somewhere of the Trollies coach and was a massive inspiration when choosing black mounts as everything is always on white for some reason. I think when the image has a deckle edge it really looks great set against a dark background.

This one I did with a 'mushroom' coloured background - the print itself is was off-white paper, but I wanted a white frame and thought it would look silly trying to match everything up.

Fantastic C215 Dappy. I've only got the one black background which MFM framed for me. It does seem to work best with a deckle edge.

Looks like deckled edges add a nice touch too. I've got eines numbers and a-z which arent floated so i want to get them reframed.

My initial question was as I have the Hush 3 sirens and single siren. I've seen lots of hush work with white frame and floated on white background, but not much on black.

Toying between these too styles of framing (one floated, one not). I'm leaning away from the float now just bcos the above examples have deckled or more interesting edges - and the hush doesn't.
