Banksy Nola - Paper Watermark, by wimpy on Sept 16, 2009 18:48:09 GMT 1, Some will have it and some will not as paper is usually torn down from larger sizes. With certain papers and printing methods, using the "right" side of the paper will sometimes matter. With screenprinting on Arches 88, it makes no difference.

IN FAILE WE TRUST - Dragon Bar 2002 Faile, by wimpy on Aug 4, 2009 9:36:25 GMT 1, Yep. It is one of the paste-up images like the "Fan Club", "10 Ways", and a couple others they ran around with back then.
Never seen it on one of the "Key Foods" paper, though. Nice find.

POW Open Day โข 2008, by wimpy on Dec 10, 2008 12:12:56 GMT 1, I'm from the US.
I recall getting a Banksy (I think it was Morons Sepia) at 12pm or so EST (US eastern) after the whole site crash and 1,000 people being assigned the same # print and whatnot. That would have made it 5am in London, where the POW peeps stayed up all night to fix some problems and release the rest properly. They must really hate us! I'm pretty sure they just release stuff when it is convenient for them during normal daytime work hours (unless something goes wrong). Wouldn't that be the way you'd do it? Yaknow... work 8am to 5pm or so then want to go have a beer and relax and sleep?
And us electing a black democratic president has a HUGE bearing on how the world sees us and will continue to interact with us. We also have our own "Tesco" type places here, so that message isn't lost.

Classic excuses for selling, by wimpy on Jul 8, 2008 5:06:34 GMT 1, Forget the 'my girlfriend/wife doesn't like it' Just seen this on ebay.com for a Obey Obama print. I am only selling this print because my Bassett Hound named Murdoc swallowed a peach pit and had to have expensive emergency surgery yesterday afternoon.
Then you have to think about stuff actually happening.
My 25 lb pup swallowed a whole pork rib.
$500 just for the emergency visit and x-rays.
Look how big that damn thing was in his tiny stomach.

Photoshop Again!, by wimpy on May 13, 2008 18:31:00 GMT 1, have you considered gimp? it's reasonably good/ easy to use and is legitimately free. works on very similar lines to photoshop. give it a whirl while you're waiting for photoshop from someone maybe. www.gimp.org/
GIMP is not only free, but it is also just a good program. I use it rather than my photoshop alot of the time.

Pay Pal are at it again..., by wimpy on Apr 23, 2008 17:27:44 GMT 1, I believe PayPal is just covering their arses in that situation. If anything shady was going on with the account, they'd look bad for NOT doing everything they could to identify the owner as best as possible.
If the guy wants to use the service to make money, he has to deal with how they work.
I do, however, agree that their "customer service" is lacking greatly.

Is the E-bay market settling a bit?, by wimpy on Apr 17, 2008 10:23:04 GMT 1, I know that people are spending money here in the states because it is tax time.
Before I buy anything this time of year, I need to recover for at least a few weeks while thinking about 1/5th of my earnings getting yanked.

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Apr 17, 2008 9:52:18 GMT 1, Yeah, sputnik. That is what I was trying to get at but in a much more long-winded fashion.

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Apr 16, 2008 19:28:51 GMT 1, t.v is a fantastic print. i don't get why he's using icons from another era though
I first bought a Dain piece because it was a beautiful image of the fight between Rocky Marciano and Jersey Joe Walcott. Now... being in my mid-20s, this outdates me by many years. However, I grew up in a family from NY city and the Catskill mountains (Rocky's training grounds) and heard endless stories glorifying him.
You can put JFK, Jackie O, Bruce Lee, etc in that realm of people perceived by the public as superhuman or controversial or whatever you associate them with. They all had their "mystique" and "intrigue". I think they are much better images than Paris Hilton or whatever other "idols" we have now that we see in every damn piece of artwork.
My guess is Dain comes from a similar situation (a Brooklyn kid) and is actually a bit older (considering he was a graffiti artist in the 80s according to lintnyc). Then you toss in the whole Warhol or whoever you want to and the whole repetitive image mass marketing thing like in TV Boy, and you've got gold.
Not only are the images appealing, but they make me think about fam. If there was one piece in all my collection I'd save if my house was burning, it'd probably be that Rocky one that reads "Reconstruct Vandalism". Love it.

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Apr 16, 2008 17:47:58 GMT 1, Am I the only one who think this is pure s**te? It is as awful as Niagaraยดs work even if they are different in style. I can hardly believe anyone wants this on the wall of their home. But ok, I will be fair and say that when it comes to taste, itยดs nice that we all donยดt like the same. So, you that buy this stuff, keep your fingers away from the next Banksy, cause you canยดt actually like that also, right?
Credible argument from the guy who produces stuff like this...
Bwahahaha. Have a nice day.

The history makers, by wimpy on Apr 16, 2008 12:13:03 GMT 1, Just because someone did something "first" doesn't mean they get the marquee placement.
For example, I'd think history will remember Faile more than Bast and Banksy more than Blek.
The "originators" often become footnotes to the people who have greater success in the public eye (as Silky said earlier).
Banksy will eventually be mentioned in college art classes for sure. Faile will, especially in printmaking classes. Shep will be in an opening paragraph somewhere. Other than that, I really can't see anyone who stands out enough to be worth a dedicated page in an art history book.
