Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 17, 2021 14:51:32 GMT 1, If you hadn't used it for trading before it doesn't matter. I'm not sure you understand the question.ย Does this service/app even work in New York? You cannot buy or sell any crypto using MetaMask in NY. Has anyone sent or received any NFTs in NY with MetaMask? Does it have any issues in NY?
Have you run it by Heni? You'd think if they knew, they'd have to find more options.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 17, 2021 14:44:00 GMT 1, Yeah, that's the thing. ย I can understand that some may be more 'different' than others but I'm still not sure why that matters. ย I can't really see one with drips and smudges being more valuable than a more perfect looking one. ย But perhaps I'm wrong. ย More rare wouldnt necessarily mean more valuable. It just adds to the uniqueness of each piece work. I think rather then an edition it should be viewed as a "cryptocurrency". Rather then owning an edition of the work you own a part of the work. All parts will be equally as valuable (like a bitcoin), apart from the NFT & Paper difference maybe ?. Where with the NFT you are trading the value of the work (more easily tradeable, no auctionhouses, fees etc....) and with the physical work you own the oldschool piece of paper your tenners.
It's interesting, value for both is created by our imagination. You'd have to think more people believe in the value and longevity of the tangible so the NFT shouldn't be as valuable. Both are scams, but NFT seems the newer more obvious one.

shipping advise for the US, by nobokov on Jul 16, 2021 22:55:05 GMT 1, Hello fellow collectors, what is the preferred shipping company for a print tube in the US? Value is $500, shipping from NYC. USPS? FedEx? UPS? Are there any other shipper? Thanks Within the US, something low value like that, I'd go with USPS Priority with insurance and signature required.

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by nobokov on Jul 16, 2021 18:49:27 GMT 1, I don't understand the motivation of owning either. Isn't it a terrible image? If it's ugly, are people buying just to brag to their friends that they have a Hirst original or are they betting that it'll be worth something someday or do they think it'll be a quick and easy flip? I don't find the images ugly at all. In fact, they're so simple and inoffensive that they're kind of the ideal choice for something like this. There's not a lot to dislike. It's just some random dots. I doubt anyone would say one of these would be the Hirst they'd pick if they had a choice, but if it's the one opportunity to own a Hirst original, I can't see anyone hanging this and finding it objectionable to look at. The argument could of course be made that wanting a piece of art that you don't love is just glorified autograph collecting. Regretfully I've got more than a handful of glorified autographs that'll never make the walls.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 15, 2021 20:51:01 GMT 1, How do buyers of the recent Cherry Blossoms prints feel about this release? I guess there's more value for money on these if selected Seems like it would be better to compare these with the H5 Colour Space Heni editions which have just done terribly on the secondary market. You'd have to imagine that these would not be that much more desirable given the huge quantity the small size and ugliness of these things.

Damien Hirst NFT or Original , by nobokov on Jul 15, 2021 20:28:14 GMT 1, Does the fact that, as extrapolated from this poll, paintings could outnumber NFTs by 20 to 1, not make anyone reconsider whether they would want to hold the NFT instead? (Me, probably not, but just putting the question out there). if you are swayed in anyway one way or another.... it is because you are trying to speculate and are simply chasing perceived rarity which you hope to drive monetary value. it's an interesting release that provides pretty clear separation of people's intent.... owning some JPG token or a physical artwork. I don't understand the motivation of owning either. Isn't it a terrible image? If it's ugly, are people buying just to brag to their friends that they have a Hirst original or are they betting that it'll be worth something someday or do they think it'll be a quick and easy flip?

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 14, 2021 19:59:50 GMT 1, What if you drew it 1,000,000 times? Would it still be worth anything? At what point does the quantity make an original lose its novelty? not sure if this matters to you or not, but for some comparison reference. total # of bitcoins ever to be created will be 21 million cost of a 1 bitcoin when originally released $0. current Value of bitcoin (july /14/21) = $33,000 just like paper money and most other things of value, they are only as valuable as we believe them to be. 1K, 10K, 100K, 1 million.. all those numbers are very small in the grand scheme of its potential. there is easily over 1 million people in the world that Like hirst work. Weather they are willing to pay for a piece of his is another story. Interesting parallel. Does that mean that you're betting on the NFT over the object and will it be able to be traded on a wider exchange platform?

At what point does the quantity make an original lose its novelty? It's not about novelty or quality or value or even quantity. It's about if it is hand drawn or hand painted. If it is, then it is an original, even if there are 10 billion that look the same. What's the point of it then?

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 14, 2021 16:33:51 GMT 1, Really enjoyed the Mark Carney interview. Interesting concept, but you have to be a nerd not an art fan to choose an NFT over the painting? Owning a work of art vs owning the provenance of a work of art that once existed. No brainer, right? Not necessarily. What if more people choose to hold the NFT and it trades for an astronomical amount? People would then choose the NFT if they can find another buyer quickly. If everyone chose the object, will that decrease the value of the object? If everyone choose the NFT, would that increase the value of the object? 10,000 objects seems like a quantity high enough to make them not very unique so storing value in those objects that are small, not visually appealing seems like it would need quite the market psychology to hold value. But who knows right? It seems like he's trying to create his own cryptocurrency through this experiment and since it's an experiment, if it fails, it wouldn't reflect poorly on him. Since he's holding 1000 of both the NFT and work, he's hedging either way because no one knows how it's gonna turn out.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 14, 2021 15:52:39 GMT 1, Hahah just stop... If you really want to get super technical... Original... you think Hirst did all these himself? Yes this is an original.... i never said it wasn't but it's more like a very nice print to me than a real Hirst original. especially 10,000 of them that look very similar. Even the titles aren't written by him. His signature is it. But yes... it's a "original" You just described every Hirst "original". The dude is a hack that found success. He's far from a hack. This project proves that he's an intelligent performance artist who understands market psychology, is curious about ideas and is trying to understand and demonstrate more. It's really fascinating. The paintings themselves are mostly shit, but the ideas are something to think about.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 14, 2021 15:41:46 GMT 1, Does anyone actually like the painting image or are they keeping it because it's an "original Hirst?"
I suppose the art really isn't about the image in this experiment. The performance art is to test greed, psychology, the followers mentality, physical vs intangible and all that. Will there be such a demand for the NFT that the value of the crypto will be higher than the actual physical object that allegedly has value because it's original art, or will there be more demand for the object? It's an interesting experiment and you all are apparently the wealthy research participants.
Even the posts in this forum will be part of the experiment and be an interesting read someday.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by nobokov on Jul 13, 2021 22:55:24 GMT 1, This project/exercise does make one ponder about what currency really is and what has intrinsic value etcโฆ. (Although an NFT is not itself any form of currency or even cryptocurrency from what I understand, so itโs a slight conflation between the two concepts by Hirst). Personally I donโt see the need to pay ยฃ2k to participate in the experiment, but it could get interesting further down the line. But who knows, Heni and elsewhere may ultimately accept these NFTs as tender for other (not NFT) works by Hirst.
I once robbed a store at gunpoint, then immediately returned to buy a candybar with their own money. Not the same concept, but boy was that a great day.

I would've preferred a colorful landscape on thicker paper. Gampi 30gsm is like a napkin.

El Mac Ixtaccihuatl, 2009 Serigraph, Ed. of 75 30โx30"
The print is a depiction of a classic theme in Mexican poster art: Popcatepetl and Ixtaccihuatl, but rendered in my own brushwork style for a bold, strange, and somewhat more modern feel. I tried to make the image as powerful as possible by only using a rich orange-red color along with the almost calligraphic black brushwork.
