Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by Art Fan 2011 on Aug 31, 2012 19:10:51 GMT 1, I'm not sure when match-stick men figures were first drawn as a representation of the human form, but we might be going back some 50 million years. But it's a fair question and you'll have to be the judge. Look closely and you'll see they are a very different animal
Cant say im a stick fan, but despite the fact that these are in a similar style I do quite like them, if nothing else its a refreshing change to be able to purchase one for a fair price and enjoy the piece for what it is, nice choice of colours too! Thanks for posting details on the forum Mr Zanda!

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by therivler1 on Aug 31, 2012 20:56:12 GMT 1, don't try to justify what you are doing, own up to it.
stik doesn't own the style.
but don't try to pretend that you aren't ripping him off.

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by Zanda on Aug 31, 2012 21:11:34 GMT 1, I don't really remember pretending anything, but that's ok. The predecessors of my Zebra People were smile Zebras, there are some photos of these on my website, they were later to evolve into Zebra People.

No prizes for guessing why that happened though eh!

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by Deleted on Aug 31, 2012 21:50:41 GMT 1, Fair enough Zanda if you say so matey, not knocking your art or anything but i reckon you were influenced by Stik enough to copy his (or hers?) ideas on this image with your own twist ie the stripes. Good luck to you anyhow.

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by Art Fan 2011 on Aug 31, 2012 21:53:47 GMT 1,
hi I'll try and answer this as best I can. The artist you mention I understand has had success with what he does, which is great. I can't say that I haven't been influenced by his art. If you're suggesting that the success of his work is why I created the Zebra People, then definately no. So in that case yes I would be making Zebra people no matter which way the wind blows. At some point I realized my Smile Zebras needed bodies. I accept there are similarities in style but I would suggest if you are interested, to really look them and you'll see they're quite different. The style and my technique of my artwork has informed their appearance. A matchstick person is a very elementary thing, which is part of their appeal to me.
A well put together response! The only thing id like to mention is that I see a number of your pieces have sold on ebay and continue to be listed by "print cave" who I presume are the gallery that represents you, I find it odd that they sell your work on ebay for much less than you sell it yourself via your own website, is that not just devaluing your work? They should sell it for the same price or not at all, id much rather buy direct from the artist but if its so much cheaper via a gallery selling on ebay then it makes sense to buy from them!

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by BrotherBern on Aug 31, 2012 22:02:48 GMT 1, I've got a quite a few of Zanda's older prints and they are really well printed, well worth the money and released in small numbers, but not so sure about these images though...... Sorry Zanda.

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by Zanda on Aug 31, 2012 22:11:02 GMT 1, When I'm printing, sometimes a print is produced that is nice, but imperfect, meaning it hasn't quite met the high standard for the edition. These are sometimes proofed and you may be able to pick one up from ebay. I can only please some of the people some of the time, not all of the people all of the time

Zanda "Zebra People" Print, by brooksie82 on Sept 1, 2012 3:31:29 GMT 1, If Damien Hirst, Banksy, Brainwash can get away with ripping peoples ideas off over and over again I guess this guy can as well.
Why not.
