OK, fair point, but at least with the HPMs I believe he does the work himself, right? Also I think he has a good eye for design.

Almost ALL of the imagery they use gets lifted from elsewhere - not even taking inspiration from other works, but blatant direct lifts... www.art-for-a-change.com/Obey/index.htmQuite an interesting read.

You should read that and still see if your opinion is the same. It may just change your views. Are you aware of Shepards background/skate culture? Skateboard graphics? Look at dface, similar background (skate) and similar way of working. Just saying.

Yeah I was a cool kid once back in the days as well but today nobody cares. ;D Avoiding his work where I can, only come across it here on the forum, and before I read one of 'his' books I'd rather jump of a bridge. Since he hardly seems capable to articulate himself in interviews I doubt he can actually write well enough to come up with a book himself. Maybe my deep sitting dislike towards his posters is also caused by the propaganda style he copies which only reminds my of Leni Riefenstahl and the propaganda she did for the Nazis which simply makes me want to through up being German. Probably my mind just can't get around that people (still) fall for this crap.

Always makes me laugh when this is posted. It's like people can't see the difference between ripping something off and taking an image and subverting it (which is 90% of art on this forum... even Banksy!) It's not like Shep hides his sources... except the Obama image of course, I'll give you that one !

That anyone interested in art doesn't instantly know where Shepards references come from is a little sad. Do people need to be told Shep didn't take the photo of Andre the Giant, or that the image of Big Brother comes from 1984? Don't want to blow your mind, but Banksy's Kate uses an image by another artist. Is that a ripped off image, or using an existing image to bring a new message? By that sites standards Banksy is guilty of ripping Warhol off.

I can only imagine the flippers on eBay cursing Shep and buying them up like mad to preserve the market advantage. heh. Props to Fairey for throwing a wrench in the works.

Interesting the Wall St. one is seemingly more popular, I wasn't keen on that at all. As Cilla Black used to say life is full of surprises..

Trouble with the big edition is they aren't signed by Jamie Reid. Very surprised Bright Future wasn't an immediate sell out though... Much nicer than the other one!

Just seriously doubt that there often is a message behind Sheps posters and if so on a level which is not very appealing to me personally since it is lacking a lot in my opinion. He's not taking an image and subverting it, most often he simply takes the image and labels it with his trademarks. If that is his way of ironical approaching/attacking the capitalistic world of exploiting companies, showing his criticism like that, than it really doesn't need to be done every two weeks, if more than once at all. Very amusingly Shep is one of the most commercial enterprises out there in the art world, best I could give him is that he is taking the piss out of himself with his anti-capitalistic pseudo propaganda. He clearly has no opinion to himself but always states one he has gotten from somewhere else just as the image. So it is not only about the imagery but the whole content of his work. If you want to compare this to Banksy than you obviously have no idea of what you are talking about.
