I must say love all what I have seen, brilliant framing also.. Glad i werent at this opening, few babychams and my Richard Branson Credit Card would have been out followed by a severe beating off the misses next day
i managed to get along last night too. it was pretty heaving so didn't get to enjoy the art as much as i'd wanted but will head down a couple more times. for those wanting to buy, most of the £7k head pieces were still available at the start of the night as was the £5k piece (not the gold one). be quick if you have pockets deep enough! most of the major pieces were gone tho not the sculpture i believe.
Sale or Trade Nick Walker, Kelsey Brookes, James Cauty
Not always easy to appreciate the quality of an exhibition when it's busy, but there's no doubt that this collection of art is of a very high standard.
You know what you're getting with the Head Studies so no surprises and therefore no disappointments either. However, the larger works were fantastic and no surprises that they were accompanied by orange dots. The enjoyment for me is in the detail. I guess whoever bought Self Portrait, On Earth As It Is In Heaven will be noticing something new in that painting for months to come.
This is a great show and I intend to get down again and see it when it's a bit quieter.
I have to say I didn't like any of the larger collage pieces, the images look amazing on screen but having been, I just think Micallef is too good a painter to be sticking pictures from magazines on his paintings. They looked messy and a bit rubbish to me - like they were hiding mistakes or something. The skill of his painting is clearly there but the collage doesn't work for me. 3k is a lot for a packet of fags but they are nicely framed. Last point. Don't really see how people still get excited by his head studies. Is his head really that exciting!
...I can see why some wouldn't like the collage stuff when referencing his older work, but to me the combination of collage/random scrawls/glimpses of super-tight painting skills make for an exciting combo IMO.
Is it my favourite phase of his work? possibly not, but I do think it is pretty amazing stuff all the same.
Regarding the head studies... some of them leave me cold, but I find when I see one that really works (like the one above), I can look at them for ages and continuously see something new. My pal and I stood with beers in the corner where the head study triptych was, just chatting and staring at them for about 40 minutes, some of the most satisfying work in the show for me.

Daniel Silk: In my opinion, Imbue, Ryca and Mobstr would be artists producing the freshest art in the past couple of years. Who would be your top 3?

paulagibbs: From someone who used to build websites, this site is not easy to navigate, and all those flashing ads at the top are annoying and rather low-end looking. I am guessing the only people who are going to visit are artists trying to sell their art.

pgm: hey guys, quick question: I have a For Sale thread posted on June 26. Since then I updated the post with new and sold pieces and commented to bump it. But it is now stuck on page 11 of the Art for Sale thread (and noone sees it). Is "bumping turned off" somehow?
