MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by RetroCanvas on Apr 15, 2011 0:16:21 GMT 1, I'm definately feeling the message in the 'rude copper' and 'monkey' pieces.
Would've loved to have gone there in person :-(

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by debaser on Apr 15, 2011 0:35:59 GMT 1, I have to say, most of the banksy pieces just dont work in a gallery space. no social commentary and the humor is certainly lacking in such a sterile environment. come on, stencils stuck to bricks!!! FFS, it looks so contrived. "mind the crap"

'it looks so contrived' - agreed! because it is contrived. is that not the point?

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by mmmike on Apr 15, 2011 4:19:59 GMT 1, I Like seeing the Banksy stuff but it is a bit disappointing to me. Looks kind of like a Mr. Brainwash show or a Banksy garage sale. Aside from a couple things most are just reused old stuff. I guess it is supposed to be old stuff but then since it is about street art, it would be nice to see more classic street pieces rather than old inside work.
Still wish I go see it in person and can't wait for pics of the rest of the show.

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by joeschmo on Apr 15, 2011 4:39:50 GMT 1, I think Banksy should have left this show alone, he only works well on his own and in his own environment.

This is not at all cool or provocative in any way shape or form, it makes light of a very serious time in our modern history, this piece is inappropriate at best. Banksy clearly has a preoccupation with police and he has let it affect his work in a negative fashion. There are many proper substitutions in this frame, one of which could be a picture of RK as he looks today with his fist in the air ala the 1968 Mexico City Olympics photos.
"Rodney King" (said aloud in a slow cadence with a low monotone voice)

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by moleman on Apr 15, 2011 8:36:12 GMT 1, Think it works well myself I like to see all the stencils on the wall they have history now as the street piece is probably stolen or defaced. To me his one shows depth of talent in stencils, paintings, and sculptures. The Rodney king piece is a bit more to the point than normal but I don't find it harsh, but that's just me.

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by Happy Shopper on Apr 15, 2011 11:17:29 GMT 1, Looks like Banksy used too many small, old pieces. Would have been stronger with just a few larger bits IMO. The stained glass window, with the Riot Policeman on the Toy horse in front of it (from Bristol Museum), etc. Less is more. A rare fail for Banksy I'd say!!
ROA looks awesome!

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by motor on Apr 15, 2011 12:36:16 GMT 1, I always like to see new stuff from Banksy. However I am not really impressed by this. Like some people said before it just doesn't work well in that environment.. Trying too hard to show too much in one boot? On the other hand that's the price someone has to pay when agrees to be part of such a kind of exhibition - this was never going to be another Bristol or LA Show. Kind of glad that Faile and others are not part of it now.

MOCA "Art in the Streets" Until 8th August, by artylang on Apr 15, 2011 12:47:06 GMT 1, Looks like the Street Market, Swoon, and Gemeos hit it out of the park with their contributions. Good to see them still pushing boundaries even if the street market is a rehash. I am a bit biased, but it seems pretty clear from photos that Swoon has the best install in the show.

I see it more as a Banksy fail than bad show to be in, I mean it looks like he forgot to stencil a warden on the roller piece lol. The espo/james/mcgee installation looks insane and it seems like many artists have really risen to the challenge.
Personally I see these kind of shows as ones that Banksy should be dominating if he really does want to be the biggest thing in the scene
