theres this artist i discovered on the internet called Lauren Utter. and well i enquired about buying her work and she's offering it to me for $250 + shipping (at least $30). and it comes mounted and framed. So it's going to cost me at least £140. now i really like it but im not sure about spending that much on someone who's unknown and it might not be worth anything. also its quite small, she said about 8x6.

so basically i want to know wether i should go for it and spend the money (bear in mind thats half of my months wages and im a poor student). or could i try and bargain (but i dont want to be disrespectful). or should i stay clear.

Just purchased a large canvas (500squid) a few months back by an artist who probably will never have any fame, but I like it better than all of my others..including my banksy prints... so if you like a piece, buy it..

I tend to agree with the majority. It's nice to have art worth something (i.e. Micallef/Banksy/etc.) but in the end it has to give you happiness. I say go for it, and who knows maybe one day if you're lucky this gal will be the next big artist and you'll sell it for 80,000 quid

I agree. I bought these two a while ago. They are by an artist that is relativley unknown and I paid quite a bit for them. There isn't much info on the net about him and I doubt he will ever be the next banksy (although you never know), nut I am so chuffed with them I would never sell them.

I do wonder how much they may fetch if I put them on the bay, but I suspect it wouldn't be alot which makes owning them more enjoyable because I'm never conflicted over keeping them or selling them. I guess people who purchased bankys years ago got a better feeling then than they do now with all this money talk.

banksy was an unknown artist at some stage. although wierdly i can't remember not knowing his work. suppose thats because i've lived in bristol for most of my ilfe.

ell. Of all the folks I know who collect art, those who step out on a limb often are those who enjoy their art the most. You'll probably be so glad to have gone with your gut that this will be only the first of many to come.

I bought this at Eyestorms sale last year.

There was info on the site, but I'd never heard any chat about the artist before seeing this piece. Just loved it and in my opinion her best print. Bought for £350 and its definitely one of my favourites.

Popularity can often jade ones appreciation of a piece. When its cheap you know whether you like it or not. when presented with a big price, its like 'should I like this because everyone else does?'
