Home Depot + Banksy! :P, by wimpy on Feb 29, 2008 15:39:46 GMT 1, So I'm at Home Depot in the burbs of Philly yesterday picking up some things to help my parents. I'm walking through the lumber section and notice this...
(crappy cell phone pic... sorry! )
I proceed to walk around the store finding these on nearly every stack of wood in the place.
Whether Home Depot is doing this or just some kid who works there after hours, I thought it was pretty funny and worthy of a post. If nothing else, it shows the increasingly widespread interest in Banksy even in small-town America. Made me smile a bit.

Home Depot + Banksy! :P, by wimpy on Feb 29, 2008 16:25:01 GMT 1, I don't know what B&Q is but Home Depot is the massive corporation that supplies all home building and improvement items to everyday consumers and some contractors. It is basically a giant warehouse of wood, tools, appliances, etc that has put tons of independent hardware stores, lumber yards, appliance sellers, and who knows what else out of business.
On a different note, it is also known to be the place to pick up illegal immigrants out front and pay them a penny on the dollar to do hard labour for your contracting company.
Been trying hard to find it anywhere in their advertising and I don't see it yet. Thought it might be a corporate thing as I didn't think a store manager (a good friend of mine is one) would let an employee do it for fun.
They spring up everywhere, some within 5 miles of each other. The company is known for its shady environmental practices.

Home Depot + Banksy! :P, by wimpy on Feb 29, 2008 20:50:44 GMT 1, Yeah... would be nice for him to hit here considering it is "modern" graffiti's birthplace. However, probably because of that, it is one of the worst places to get busted doing so.
I was merely making a comment on Banksy's exponentially growing fan-base using this as an example.

Home Depot + Banksy! :P, by Ågentßacardi on Feb 29, 2008 21:45:23 GMT 1, With all those stencils popping up on eBay, I can see why it would be tempting to "make your own Banksy". Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and it's definitely clear that Banksy has made his mark in the US. Now, if you see stuff like this in the midwest of the USA, then you'll know that he REALLY has made his mark! ;D

Home Depot + Banksy! :P, by Bram on Feb 29, 2008 22:42:34 GMT 1, OK I say we start a movement. Every B&Q in the UK must have a DIY Banksy. Banksy, if you on here, you start tomorrow in Wigan. Ideally on something I can then buy. i.e a Radar Rat on a 50cm x 50 cm MDF board. Oh and if you don't mind enclosing a bit of prov.
