Affordable Art Fair, by andrewd on Mar 13, 2008 12:39:44 GMT 1, Cann't see a thread on this anywhere else. Last night was the private view. The AAF is a mixture of park railing art, budding contemporary and established names all selling work for under ยฃ3K. Highlights included stuff by Sir Peter Blake and a very chatty Matt Small talking to anyone who would listen about his art. I know lots of you lot have met Matt but for those who haven't he really is very approachable and willing to talk about his work. www.affordableartfair.com www.sesameart.com is the gallery showing some of Matt's work.

Affordable Art Fair, by moejoed on Mar 13, 2008 12:48:16 GMT 1, Went to this last year and found it to have a good cross-section of art.
Would recommend it as a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon

Affordable Art Fair, by slowmo on Mar 13, 2008 14:48:38 GMT 1, I hated it last year, so much crap and so big. I knowthat sounds bad, but it was so hard to try and find decent work, that when you did you were too tired to consider it. I would definitely recommend having a look at the exhibitor list first and deciding on who you want to see, as going up and down was mind numbing.

Affordable Art Fair, by scavos on Mar 13, 2008 17:26:04 GMT 1, If anyone managed to take some snaps of the Dennings available, I'd love to see them. Did Matt Small have any work available at this show? I agree with you Andrew, he really is a top bloke and one of the most talented. Raw talent.

Affordable Art Fair, by andrewd on Mar 13, 2008 18:43:00 GMT 1, Matt had 3 lino prints ( from the Black Rat press print show ) for sale two of which had been sold. There were two small pieces on the floor, one on a piece of metal ( VCR recorder) and a small canvas. You could go to the link for Sesame on my first post and they'd probably be able to tell you what they have available from him. I missed the Dennings!

Affordable Art Fair, by Oliver Garland on Mar 13, 2008 22:25:50 GMT 1, I thought it was an aweful fair, the art was so bad apart from the small's, john Bellany, and the students work at the entrance. The rest made my eyes literally hurt, I mean what the hell was that horse made out of Fu king wellington boots, the stuff was kitch, sickly and meant for the interiors of prefabricated apartments, sorry I mean no, the trash bin.. I was rele dissapointed and felt robbed of my money. I found some of the Denning pieces nice, and there was the odd painting that made me stop, but overall the best part was the free shuttle bus from Sloane Square. But thats my opinion, go and find out what you thought.

Affordable Art Fair, by uksnowman on Mar 14, 2008 0:32:51 GMT 1, ollie - you didn't mention the free wine and the high ratio of nicely turned out ladies
Dennings were quite nice, several sold within a few hours of the preview opening. Wasn't too keen on the tiny canvases (495 I think) but the two larger oils on canvas were nice and they sold pretty quickly.
The 3 Matt Small originals were tasty and I learned quite a lot about Peter Blake - bit pricey but I liked one of his signed prints (La Vern Baker). Mauger gallery had some really nice stuff too, not artists I know of but worth checking out, one was a mozaic of Che Guevara called Hero I think.

I didnt enjoy it enough for them to charge ยฃ8!!! I hated 85% of it. I hope the show isnt an overview of contemporary English Art cause were in trouble if it was, as only 15% was worth hanging. sorry if im being too critical just my opinion.
