art auction tracker, by nah on Feb 13, 2010 19:12:28 GMT 1, hi, not sure how useful this is but i recently made a website that lists the most popular items on ebay.co.uk/ebay.com and puts them in order of watchers. it's a good way of quickly checking which items are 'hot' at the moment, or seeing if somethings under the radar or secretly being watched by a hundred people
www.artauctiontracker.com
interestingly, in the UK at least, urban/street etc type art seems to be right at the top of most categories.
hope it provides you with a few seconds of entertainment anyway
thanks

pfffffffft, thanks for the Rolf Harris link (are you a collector of his work?), I havent been following his prices as of late. My post was more regarding the subject matter, WTF Mo Mowlan moment.

Not at all a collector, I had the same WTF moment as you did and was shocked that there had already been 174 views on that auction so I googled the artist.
After looking through Nah's site, the really weird listings seem to be long term auctions with multiples available.
The trick for Nah's site would be to bump out the dutch auctions and expand the number of listings. The true hidden gems wont have so many watchers on them. About 6 years ago I nabbed a pair of josef albers lithographs that the seller couldn't idenitify for $250 (after a very slight bidding war) and promptly sent them to an auction house and sold them for about 3 grand. Weirdly, I really regret it, they were gorgeous lithos and I should have kept them.
You can really get good art deals on ebay but man you have to work for them. This site, if tweaked, could take out a lot of the search time.
edited to add: an easier way to do this might be excluding the buy it nows as opposed to the listings that have multiples available...maybe?

unfortunately i used to ebay widget editor to make the site which is ridiculously limited, im gonna see if i can edit the code manually in a bit. i even had to leave out some categories because they were so infested by those spammy BIN auctions.
