How to get framed art for less than £100, by recycle on Nov 26, 2009 1:13:42 GMT 1, I thought i would post this purely because i'm really pleased with a result i had through chance.
I bought a faile mermaids (marmaids?) on ebay recently for 65 quid and was thinking how i could store it flat. Purely by chance i had 100x70 habitat frame floating about (35 quid), and i kept looking at the two and i thought, mmmm, they do look about the same size. I hadn't really thought about framing this straight away, but thought i wouldn't be using the frame for a while anyway, so lets offer it up. Lo and behold perfect fit, and i'm so pleased with the results it's gonna stay in there, just have to find a big enough space to hang it. If i ever find my camera, i will take a photo and post it.
Anyone else pleased with a cheap framed piece they've had?

How to get framed art for less than £100, by Martin DK on Nov 26, 2009 1:34:59 GMT 1, Cool recycle!
A good idea though, if you can get some frame spacers, that could remove the print from the glass, so you dont end up damaging the print over time.

How to get framed art for less than £100, by recycle on Nov 26, 2009 1:51:16 GMT 1, Funny that you say that, only gonna keep it against the glass for a little bit till it's flat again then will space it out.
On the habitat frames a cheap way to space them is to pick up the 2m lengths of U shaped extruded plastic from B&Q, costs about 3 quid a length, the size i used last time i think was 20mmx12mm.

How to get framed art for less than £100, by papillon on Nov 26, 2009 9:51:56 GMT 1, dont do it... i guess its all down to personal opinion but i'd much rather put a picture on hold till i can afford to have it 'properly' framed. That said i suppose you could get meuseum quality glass cut to fit?
And my framer always seems pleased to see me (no surprise there)

How to get framed art for less than £100, by recycle on Nov 26, 2009 10:10:32 GMT 1, I do know what you are saying, and i am sure this subject has been done to death, but in my opinion i don't see the point in spending hundreds of pounds on a frame for a cheap print, i would rather get it up and appreciate it. I would never cheaply frame something i classified as rare or valuable.
Can someone on here could work out some mathematical formula for this?
Price of print divided by years till fade x Size of print in m2 = price to spend on frame per metre square, or something like that lol......

Agreed. I have a rule that I never spend more on a frame than the print. I agree with the comments about fading etc., but for a 'cheap' print then I wouldn't worry too much.

How to get framed art for less than £100, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 26, 2009 18:56:51 GMT 1, I agree with you Recycle and Darren. What´s the point saving for months, monies you could better use for other things, to protect something which would be cheaper to replace? Don´t get me wrong, it´s not all about money, there may be cases where someone loves an image and wants to go all out to have it framed in a certain way and more power to them. The idea that EVERYTHING must be framed expensively, is not realistic for some of us (myself included), especially when buying stuff at the lower end of the market. As long as we can enjoy it, the framing is doing its job.

How to get framed art for less than £100, by jimbo73 on Nov 27, 2009 13:36:02 GMT 1, I quite like the fading. My Dolk Che (which cost only £50) was framed by someone I know using nice cheap non UV float glass. The paper has coloured a bit due to that it has been on the wall for about 3 years and it looks great!
