Crypto currency winners investing in real art, not NFTs, by pollz66 on Jan 6, 2022 14:29:17 GMT 1, This from The Guardian:
"The global art market performed at record levels in 2021, with billions of dollars being paid for works by impressionist, postwar and contemporary artists, and much of it bought by people whose wealth comes from cryptocurrencies or other technologies."
www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2022/jan/02/crypto-tycoons-global-art-market-record-levels-2021
Anyone else find it ironic that while many people are being persuaded to invest real money in digital NFTs, many of those who made money from crypto and other digital technology are now investing it in real art?

Crypto currency winners investing in real art, not NFTs, by pollz66 on Jan 6, 2022 14:52:42 GMT 1, Isn't that the same as owning art NFTs ie tying your real money up in digital assets which have no guarantee of value in the real world?

Crypto currency winners investing in real art, not NFTs, by New Wave Dave on Jan 6, 2022 15:28:34 GMT 1, I dont think its an either or proposition, probably doing both. And 'other technologies' is pretty vague. Basically anybody in tech..?
The TLDR of this: despite all the hype around NFTs, physical art is still slamming.

I donโt find it ironic because NFTs are even more stupider than crypto

From what I've read, the major holders of ETH are the ones buying NFTs at high prices to make it appear as if there's real demand for NFTs. That in turn creates demand for NFTs and sheeple rushing in to buy or create NFTs. That increases the demand and price for ETH and makes the ETH whales even richer. Then these whales buy actual art with it rather than the fake stuff.

NFT collecting is really more scratching the get-rich-quick, day trader itch. With a little bit of flex and desire to be a part of a community thrown in. Most of this is really a transition of day trading or flipping crytpo currencies than going from the physical art market to NFTs.

Crypto currency winners investing in real art, not NFTs, by dunkers on Jan 6, 2022 20:36:53 GMT 1, Why would this be ironic? NFTs and art are not the same. Makes sense for people who make money in crypto to invest it in various markets including art.

Crypto currency winners investing in real art, not NFTs, by robo on Jan 6, 2022 22:17:38 GMT 1, NFT is merely a medium; just like canvas, paper, clay, photograph, VHS tape. Whether itโs art, good art or not art depends on the artistic intent, the artwork itself, and to some extent the opinion of the beholder.
But saying NFTs are not art, or are all bad art, is the same as saying paintings or photographs or screenprints or video art are not art; though many people through history have indeed said this.
