Why the recent surge in Invader? , by needfoolthings on Mar 20, 2021 20:03:41 GMT 1, Seeing Invader prices popping randomly across the board. I can’t seem to find any auctions that are pushing his works up. I always loved invader and think compared to many artists he is undervalued but just curious what’s driving the market again besides all the cool stuff he is consistently doing. I am a longtime invader collector of 10 years. Is there something I don’t know you amazing folks can fill me in on.
Thoughts everyone? Much appreciated. 💙

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by Charlie Bronson on Mar 20, 2021 21:36:34 GMT 1, I remember in early 2017 there was a crazy surge in his prices. I sold a couple of signed pieces for a good amount, more than they’re fetching now tbh. I feel like he had a crazy jump at that time, and then things leveled off. Didn’t realize he’s having another big jump.

Didn’t realize he’s having another big jump. Agreed, 2017 was a little bit silly. In the last couple of months there were some strong results (RVE, Kung Fu), but nothing like back in in 2017. The OG pieces climbed in the last 2 years or so, but nothing crazy. The $1.2m Sotheby’s auction record raised some eyebrows.
I also noticed that in the last few months no alias was offered at Christie’s/Sotheby’s/Philips.

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by LJCal on Mar 20, 2021 22:34:47 GMT 1, I think it’s partly that the wider market is rising, I’ve seen prices going up for quite a few well known contemporary artists. There’s also not a massive supply of good invader works, the prints and kits are not massive editions and he’s got a very enthusiastic base of collectors.

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by Those aren’t pillows on Mar 21, 2021 0:43:33 GMT 1, I agree. As I remember they gradually bought up a stock of editions on the open market for an exhibition and then pumped. The aftermath, after the artificially created high, fell back but still held above previous values. it’s all about PR. Invader has held true to his core values. In urban (language) terms I would consider Invader a ‘grower’. Surely he has consulted his cousin and chosen to adopt a different, almost Blu-esque route?

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by Jonas B on Mar 21, 2021 15:36:12 GMT 1, I noticed prices started to edge up around the time of his Paris show. It's great to see so many street pieces up and around Paris when you walk around. Not sure if he's a national treasure in France yet but he should be.

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by Mass on Mar 21, 2021 15:58:37 GMT 1, I bought RVE last year and it’s my favourite print even with a few banksy prints in the portfolio. I paid 7.5k and thought I’d paid full value. Not sure they have increased dramatically since then

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by theclash on Mar 21, 2021 17:18:20 GMT 1, I went to his exhibition at Laz Greek St, matbe 2007 or 8, and it was all the Rubik ones. I was underwhelmed and filed him as "nah, not for me". Seen so many nice works since. The Scooter one is awful though...

Why the recent surge in Invader? , by jimmyjam on Mar 21, 2021 17:32:53 GMT 1, Invader and Banksy are two artists from this generation street art / urban art market that I just would never sell unless you really needed the cash. So far these two have consistently done well and will continue so.
The way they limit their releases and their mass popularity across the world (which both continue to grow) will always bring a demand for these two. Banksy and Invader (Shepard as well but he's a different story) will for sure be in art history books for this genre of art.

It was sad to the see the show at Opera Gallery in Dubai. Sad. Just sad.
I presume you have been in to see the works as you live in Dubai? I have only seen the PDF and thought it looked like his normal show pieces with a couple of new OGs included?
Why do you say he is ‘done’? Genuine question as i have no horse in this race!

An unsigned Jack went for £3500 recently on eBay. Seems very high
