I still don't understand the hardon that everyone has for people flipping prints. If you can afford the primary sale, you can afford the secondary. And If you cant afford the secondary pricing, you shouldn't be buying it at primary. Best pay off Porsche finance first.

The snobbery on this forum is getting a little out of hand. This post makes no sense, if someone can afford primary, nothing whatsoever about that confirms they can afford x times that amount. If you can’t afford to pay five times the amount something initially costs you shouldn’t be buying it in the first place?

I actually don’t have an issue with flipping. I don’t do it, or at least haven’t yet, but I do have things that I haven’t got round to framing and may never make the wall.
If at some point I decide definitively they won’t, I’d probably like to sell them.
When it comes to selling them, I’ll probably do my best to get a fair market rate, not just cover my costs.

Selling things for more than you paid for them is not the problem here.

What the problem is, is when somebody comes on here and sells stuff they haven't even received yet.  There's some people (we all know who they are) who click the "buy now" button then come straight on here and try and flog it for 3 times the price. They don't even have the decency to wait until the actual artwork is in their possession! 

Emotionally I feel the same way, but rationally I realise it is a spectrum, and it’s slightly subjective and arbitrary where the line is between ‘ok’ and ‘bit of a dick move’.

It's an aluminum panel with some colors printed on it. It was 6K excluding VAT at release. If you have that kind of money to spend on a piece of art 12000 EUR shouldn't really be phasing your bank balance and if it is, you have no business buying one at 6K. The truth hurts. Too many people living on credit cards, car leases and huge mortgages.  

You missed out on a drop, don't get too salty. If you want it that badly, just pay secondary. The only reason most people buy Damien's editions is because of there instant and easy flipability.

Imho it boils down to the fact that this place is first and foremost a community of online acquaintances and friends, who have a common bond around the love of art. When someone, like the OP above, comes to the forum and tries to sell their piece for much more than they paid, without establishing themselves as a positive, contributing member of the forum, it rubs many the wrong way.

I have no problem with people flipping pieces. I don’t do it; unfortunately I have a hard time letting go of art. I’ve bought pieces with the intent to flip, but always end up hanging onto them, and fortunately 9 out of 10 times, a few years on, that decision turns out to be the right one. I guess if you’re going to use this place as strictly an investment tool and not become a part of the community, you’re going to get shit for it from those that take the time to share news, answer questions by other members, show their collection and what not. Just my humble two cents.

Sorry to say I largely disagree. Having disappeared for periods of time and dropped back in, it seems the least community ever here now. Most of the people I see posting on here now have only joined in the last few months and treat others with zero respect. That's not glorifying the old days, just an observation that ties in with the way the world is generally more binary and extreme.

I don't get why people don't just ignore these threads if they don't like them. That would stop them constantly going to the top of latest lists. Ultimately its supply and demand... If the price is right someone will pay it, if not they won't.

I disagree when you say most of the people posting have only joined the past few months. I’ve been here since 2008, changed my username in 2014. Since 08, it’s been essentially the same 30 or so people I interact with. I guess individual experiences differ. Also, it depends on where you spend your time here. If you’re in the Sales forum, then yeah, I’d imagine the experience is different than if you spend most of your time in other sub forums of this site. The experience is what you make of it.

But in this case, this gallery (if that's what the site is) must have emailed me 10 times trying to sell me one. I dont recall the price but it was maybe $5000. maybe $6500.. Whatever it was I was like that's insane for a series of 75 in like 5-10 different colors too so 500+ total.

Seems they didnt sell fast then and doubt they are gonna double overnight

They didn't email you ten times. There weren't 5-10 colors, the run wasn't 500+, they sold quickly and completed sales indicate the price has nearly doubled since release.

What strategy do you use with Heni? Do you bid for all colours to have a chance? I only normally bid for the one item I actually want but success with that strategy has been sporadic...

I was lucky enough to pick up a Nong Nooch and I wish I could say there was a strategy with my success but there wasn’t. I put in my application for the one and it was just luck of the draw.

I was skeptical at first thinking that you have to apply for all to be considered but I’m pleased to confirm that it’s not the case with Heni or at least with this drop.

A friend of mine has all of the P series prints except for the exclusive ones. He has never resold anything sold to him by HENI. He was not allocated a print from H6, nor H7 nor H8 but got a P19. It's hard to say how it works.
