I get the appeal of having some sort of COA for a piece that has a ton of fakes out there. However, wouldn’t a cert from Laz be far easier to fake than the actual tenner itself? 

“yeah but this one has his thumbprint on it.“ As if anyone has his actual fingerprint on file.

This would be applied to any certificate where the gallery or artist isn’t actually tracking ownership. I am new here and maybe I’m off so, help me understand the craze.

Save your monies brotha', it has been stated by PCO that any certificate on these means nothing..it was a fawx market with propped up sales by the invested parties to legitimize something that was never meant to have authentication.

provenance can be proven with purchase history, COA, hologram sticker, etc.  with the laz & BNG releases, people wanted to buy from the source vs ebay or other 3rd party places that are FLOODED with fakes and were willing to pay a premium for that peace of mind.  it's not a PC COA but the next best thing for a tenner that will never get a PC COA.

You actually prove my point though. There’s a craze surrounding “provenance” and COA that can but just as fake. Or at least, as easily faked. It ceases to be about the art or the history of the art (or in this case, the stunt) and about the resale, etc. 

this is fine to me... I have no problem with art as an investment but my point is that selling (especially on eBay) something with a “COA” means nothing if the COA itself can be easily faked.

oh for sure. I bought a tenner on here from a great forum member without Laz cert. still paid a pretty penny but not the premium for an easily faked COA. Unless, you’re buying direct from Laz (whose price is surprisingly lower than some), how would you know it’s authentic? I just don’t get it. 

To me, a solid closeup inspection of some key markers is a better indicator of the real deal.

my OP was just a question re: the craze surrounding COAs when one should question the COA as much as the piece itself.

Nice, if I remember correctly from the reading I did on these, they were first marketed as the last remaining ones...then an avalanche of post "the last of these" came out .lol

If you make 100,000 pieces of an item and end up with control over the last 900,000 then the statement is correct.

No, it's not. You can't prove that the item you have is the same item as when you received it. As in, you can get a "legit" one and swap it with a fake one and sell it. There shouldn't be a market around this stuff, and it's absolutely mental that some people are being conned by this all.

ugh. you have no idea what you are talking about with the framed tenners.  they have hologram sticker seals..... sure, you can swap them out, but good luck sticking them back one.
